done by Vespasian, who was the first that handled the sword of Esau among the Jews, after their rebellion. Here he began to slay the dragon that was in the sea.

The second seal, And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea, (which was multitudes and people, or the dragon part of Israel;) and the sea became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.'

Titus now was handling the sore and strong sword of Esau, and was turning the sea composed of many waters which were multitudes of dragon Israel, to blood. And it appears by this vial that he slew all as he passed along; for John says that every living soul died in the sea.'

'And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers, and fountains of waters, and they became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art,

and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. For they have shed the blood of saints, and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. This was what Christ told the dragons, when on earth, that all the blood from righteous Abel to that of Zachariah, whom the dragons slew between the porch and the temple, should be required of that dragon generation. Isaiah speaks of this dragon, Chap. li: 9. 'Awake, Awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? (The prophet here was speaking of Israel.) 'Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the

sea a way for the ransomed to pass over ?' v. 10.

It is evident that when the dragon that was in the sea became slain that the sea dried up, and there was no more sea. As John says, when he saw the new heavens and new earth, which was the Gospel Kingdom. So then he says, the old heavens and earth were past away, and there was no more sea. So when this sea where the dragon lived, was dried up, Isaiah says, 'Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Sion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.' This agrees with Rev. xxi: 4,

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying.' His meaning here was, that there never should be another such a time of mourn

ing and crying as was experienced by the dragons of the wilderness.

Malachi speaks of these dragons, 'The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi. I have loved you saith the Lord. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord: yet I loved Jacob, and I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.'

So these dragons were those which the Lord brought up out of Egypt and planted in the land of Canaan. Moses speaks of these same dragons and productions of that vine. For their vine is the vine of Sodom, and of the fields. of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of gall, and their clusters are bitter; their wine is the poison of dragons.' This gave Jerusalem where these dragons dwelt, the name of Sodom and Egypt, spiritual, as John said. David

speaks Psalm xci:

Thou shalt tread

upon the lion and the adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.' David being a prophet, foresaw the destruction of fallen Israel. This was fulfilled on the dragon, in the day of Jerusalem's judgment, when the dragon was trodden under foot by the Gentiles. David speaks Psalm lxxiv: 13. Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength thou breakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.' These were the many waters on which the whore sat, which were multitudes of dragon Israel, and the sea where the dragon dwelt, which sea the Romans turned to blood. See Isa. xxxiv: 13, upon the same subject. And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be a habitation of dragons, and a court forowls.' Jer. ix: 11. 'And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons;
