4 There, anchor'd safe, my weary soul
Shall find eternal rest;
Across my peaceful breast.
Is vanity and toil.
A sense of pardoning love,
Give joys like those above.
And purify the mind; Which make the spirit mount on high,
And leave the world behind.
O thou who art the Lord's,
Such joy as earth affords.
HYMN 149. S. M. COME; ye that love the Lord,
And let your joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord,
And thus surround the throne. 2 Let those refuse to sing
That never knew our God,
May speak their joys abroad. 3 The God of heaven is ours,
Our Father and our love; His care shall guard life's fleeting nouis,
Then waft our souls above. 4 There shall we see his face,
And never, never sin ;
Drink endless pleasures in. 5 Yes, and before we rise
To that immortal state,
Should constant joys create.
Children of grace have found
Glory begun below:
From faith and hope may grow. y The hill of Sion yields
A thousand sacred sweets,
Or walk the golden streets. 8 Then let our songs abound,
And every tear be dry;
To fairer worlds on high.
HYMN 150. III. 3.
And the peace that from it flows:
This dull soul to rapture raise : Thou must light the fame, or never
Can my love be warm’d to praise.
Wretched wanderer, far astray ;,
From the paths of death away;
Him who saw thy guilt-born fear, And, the light of hope revealing,
Bade the blood-stain'd cross appear. 3 Lord, this bosom's ardent feeling
Vainly would my lips express : Low before thy footstool kneeling,
Deign thy suppliant's prayer to bless : Let thy grace, my soul's chief treasure,
Love's pure fame within me raise ; And, since words can never measure,
Let my life show forth thy praise.
HYMN 151. III. 1.
Oft it causes anxious thought;
Am I thine, or am I not?
2 Could my heart so hard remain,
Prayer a task and burden prove, Any duty give me pain,
If I knew a Saviour's love? 3 When I turn mine eyes within,
O how dark, and vain, and wild ! Prone to unbelief and sin,
Can I deem myself thy child ? 4 Yet I mourn my stubborn will,
Find my sin å grief and thrall : Should I grieve for what I feel,
If I did not love at all ? 5 Could I love thy saints to meet,
Choose the ways I once abhorr'd, Find at times the promise sweet,
If I did not love thee, Lord ? 6 Saviour, let me love thee more,
If I love at all, I pray ;
Who reigns enthroned above;
And God of love;
By earth and heaven confess'd ;
For ever bless'd.
At whose supreme command
At his right hand :
Its wisdom, fame, and power ;
My shield and tower.
I on his oath depend,
To heaven ascend :
I shall his power adore,,
4 There dwells the Lord, our King,
The Lord, our righteousness,
The Prince of Peace;
His kingdom he maintains,
For ever reigns.
The great archangels sing ;
And evermore shall be ;
We worship thee.”
Give thanks to God on high ;
They ever cry:
I join the heavenly lays;
And endless praise.
HYMN 153. IV. 3,
Psalm c. BE joyful in God, all ye lands of the earth, Exult in his presence with music and mirth,
With love and devotion draw near. 2 For Jehovah is God, and Jehovah alone,
Creator and ruler 'o'er all; And we are his people, his sceptre we owa;
His sheep, and we follow his call. 3 O enter his gates with thanksgiving and song,
Your vows in his temple proclaim; His praise with melodious accordance prolong
And bless his adorable Name.
And we are the work of his hand ;
And shall to eternity stand.
HYMN 154. L. M.
Psalm c. BEFORE Jehovah's awful throne,
Ye nations, bow with sacred joy ;
Know that the Lord is God alone;
He can create, and he destroy. 2 His sovereign power, without our aid,
Made us of clay, and form'd us men; And when like wandering sheep we stray'd,
He brought us to his fold again. 3 We are his people, we his care,
Our souls, and all our mortal frame; What lasting honours shall we rear,
mighty Maker, to thy Name? 4 We'll crowd thy gates with thankful songs,
High as the heaven our voices raise ;
Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise. 5 Wide as the world is thy command,
Vast as eternity thy love;
When rolling years shall cease to move.
HYMN 155. III. 1.
Songs of Praise.
When he spake and it was done.
When the Prince of Peace was born ;
Captive led captivity.
Songs of praise shall crown that day:
Songs of praise shall hail their birth.
Till that glorious kingdom come?
Psalms, and hymns, and songs of praise 5 Saints below, with heart and voice,
Still in songs of praise rejoice;
Songs of praise to sing above.
Songs of praise shall conquer death ;
