VERSE

The antient Armenian Verses or Songs were not rhymed, as the following for example.

րկնէր երկին եւ երկիր, երկներ եւ ծիրանի ծով.

րկն ի ծովուն ունէր զկարմրիկ եղեգնիկն. Ընդ եղեգան փող բոց ելանէր,

ւ ՚ի բոցոյն պատանեկիկ վազէր . յա Հուր հեր ուներ

'պա թէ բոց ունէր մորուս,
իւ աչկունքն էին արեգակունք :

But now they are rhymed generally and are composed from five Syllables to fifteen. The following few lines are specimens with their own translation in prose.

of 5 Syllables.

Սէր անուն Յիսուս

Սիրով քով ճըմլեա

Սիրտ իմ քարեղէն

Jesus, whose name is a love, bind thou my heart of ston with thy love.

of 6 Syllables.

ղեալ Հարմն անմաչին ,

րկնաւոր փեսային :

Having been the bride of the immortal celestial Bridegroom.

of 7 Syllables.

| րիաբար դու միրցեա ՚ի Հանդիսի ըստատին

Valiantly fight thou in the public combat. of 8 Syllables.

Սիրեա զուսումն որով պատուիս ՚ի յերկնայնոց եւ ՚ի յերկրիս

Love thou instruction, by which thou wilt obtain honor from Heaven, and on earth.

of 9 Syllables.

Today the Invisible appears from on high; the knowledge of all creatures is discovered.

of 11 Syllables.

Րանաւոր ծառոց երեւեցան ծաղիկք իրփնազարդ գունով, անուշաՀոտ բուրմամբ :

Flowers of rational Plants appeared of various tints, and delicious odour.

of 12 Syllables.

Րոլորակ եմ՝ կիսագունտ որպէս խորան, Րնութեամբ կայուն , անձամբ շարժուն , անտեսական ծ

I am a hemisphere round as a pavilion, by nature firm, in reality moveable invisibly. of 15 Syllables.

կոչումն որոտման յետ Հոսելոյն զանձրեւ

կենաց :

|՝ մփոփեալ յերկինս րէն դարձաւ :

The roar of thunder having diffused the rain of life, is recovered to the heavens, returning to his Origin.

of 14 Syllables.

Րանիւ աւետաւոր բարառնաբար բարբա ռեսցուք

ட்

Ես քեզ եկեղեցի, դուստըր վերինըն Սիովնի: Let us cry aloud in joyful tidings addressing thee personally, O Church, daughter of lofty Sion.

of 15 Syllables.

Որ ՛ի վերայ ջուրցըն գոլով ստեղծանեիր զարարածս ,

իջեալ'ի ջուրս ւազանին , ծնանիս որդիս ստուծոյ :

Thou, who brooding on the waters didst make creation, descending in the waters of the Baptismal fount, dost give birth to the Sons of God.

1. Ստեփաննոս որք ընդ նմա րիցունք, Ղաժնոս, ւբուլոս, թէոփիլոս եւ սինոն՝ Պաւղոս Հայր մեր եւ լե տարանիչ, եւ հաւատարիմ՝ վ արդապետ ՚ի վ Քրիստոս Յիսուս , ողջոյն

2. Արք ոմանք երկու եկին ՚ի կորնթոս՝ Սիմոն անուն եւ կղէսոս , որք կործանեցին քաջ քաջ զոմանց Հաւատս , Հրապուրողս, եւ ապականեալբանիւք •

3. յորոց բանից վերայ դու ինքնին պար տիս Հասանել :

գ. զի մեք ՛ի քէն ոչ երբեք լուաք զայնպի սի բանս , եւ ոչյայլոցն առաքելոց .

5. այլ այսչափ գիտեմք՝ որ ինչ ՛ի քէն լուաք, որ ինչ ՚ի նոցանէն լուաք, Հաստա տուն պաչեմք :

6. (Րայց յայսմիկ յոյժ ողորմեցաւ Տէր, զի մինչ դու իսկ մարմնով ընդ մեզ ես,միւս անգամ՝ լուիցուք :
