perience of all nations conspires to prove to you that godliness, and that only, is profitable unto all things, having the promise of the life that now is and that which is to come. And will not every youth, whose eye lights on these pages, be persuaded immediately to obey the divine mandate, " My son, give me thine heart." Do you desire happiness? Do you pant after distinction? Would you inherit glory, honor, immortality, eternal life? Seek your all in Christ. Surrender to him your supreme affection, and make it the one great,commanding purpose of your lives, to serve God with all your powers, and to secure his eternal approbation and love. Be induced by your immeasurable obligations to your Maker and Redeemer, by all your fears of perdition, and all your hopes of immortal glory and blessedness, to acquire a knowledge of God from his word, and to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ unto salvation. Seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, new excellencies will be daily discovered in the divine character, fresh success will be perpetually afforded in the path of duty, and every new victory will inspire new hope and produce new energy and delight in the service of the Lord. Neglecting to remember now your Creator,

you will become more confirmed in wickedness, and unless sovereign grace interpose to save, you will ripen fast for destruction.

Imitate the subject of these memoirs by a life of prayerfulness. Like her consult the throne of grace, and seek wisdom from above on all occasions. Place yourself under the divine guidance, and say with young Samuel, "Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth." Think not that you can live safely for one day without prayer. Without it, you will be easily overcome with temptation, and led away with the error of the wicked: you can never know whether you are in the path of duty, can never have the joys of an approving conscience, nor be able to repose confidence in God. Cultivate then a devotional spirit. Beg of God to bestow it upon you as the richest treasure and the source of the highest felicity.

Consider well the devotedness to the cause of benevolence, and the conscientious discharge of duty, which characterised the beloved daughter of Israel, whose worthy example has been presented for your imitation. She gave herself to Christ, and was ready to endure every privation in obedience to his call. She had only to inquire what was duty, and when satisfied on this point, she had no further hesitation. She

was ready to go wherever God would have her, do whatever work he assigned, and endure whatever sufferings he appointed. Dear youth, let this ever be your conduct. You need indulge no fears of consequences, while you closely and conscientiously follow the path of duty. Even the unbelieving world will be constrained to admire your consistent course, and yield you their unwilling praise. The friends of Christ will hail you as their companions, angels will approve, and God himself will shine on your path.

"Honor and happiness unite,

To make the Christian's name a praise :
How fair the scene, how clear the light,
That fills the remnant of his days.

Adorned with glory from on high,
Salvation shines upon his face;
His robe is of the etherial dye,
His steps are dignity and grace.

The noblest creature seen below,
Ordained to fill a throne above!
God gives him all he can bestow-
His kingdom of eternal love!

My soul is ravish'd at the thought—
Methinks from earth I see him rise;
Angels congratulate his lot,

And shout him welcome to the skies."
