PREFACE.

s work was originally intended and underen for the benefit of Sunday Schools, but ay be found especially useful in families; it is probable that the subject and bearof many of the Songs of Zion, as well as y expressions in them, are in general but erfectly understood: and it is needful that hould "sing with the spirit, and sing with understanding also." 1 Cor. xiv. 15. If, fore, on each Sunday, the Psalms for the be read with this explanation, before to church, it may be a means, under blessing, of exciting a better attention em, and of enabling some to derive a er advantage from this important part of dmirable Liturgy. To those families, ver, in which the reading of a portion ipture is happily combined with domesrship, this manual may afford a seasonelp and service.
