we have the certain pledge and assurance for yet unwonted effort. The salvation of seamen is, under God, committed to the church, and by the church the great work must be done.

The christian catholic basis on which the Society is founded, happily enables every section of the church, without the least compromise of principle, to unite their energies in this cause. To make the SAILOR a CHRISTIAN, is our simple object; and to this who can object, whether Episcopalian, or Presbyterian, or Congregationalist, or Baptist, or Wesleyan?

To our respected correspondents, in various parts of the kingdom, we tender our sincere thanks for their communications, and hope that they will continue to employ their pen in our behalf.

And for all the success which has marked and accompanied our labours in the various departments of holy exertion, we ascribe the glory to Him, who is Head and Lord of all; and pray that a yet richer measure of his Spirit may descend and rest on all who are engaged in this sacred cause, till the sea, which was once impressed with the footstep of the incarnate Deity, shall exhibit over its yet unmeasured surface no less his mercy than his majesty!
