50 We have herefore brought an oblation for the LORD, wha' every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, ear-rings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our fouls before the LORD.

«Chap. xxxiii. the land which the Lord hath given them? 8 Thus did your fathers, when I fent them from Kadeth-barnea to fee the land.

9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eicol, and faw the land, they difcouraged the heart of the children of ffrael, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

10 And the LORD's anger was kindled the fame time, and he sware, faying,

11 Surely none or the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, thall fee the land which 1 fware unto Abraham, unto Ifaac, and unto Jacob; be. cause they have not wholly followed me; 112 Save Caleb the fon of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

13 And the LORD's anger was kindled against Ifrael, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the ge seration that had done evil in the fight of the LORD was confumed.

14 And, behoid, ye are rifen up in your fathers dead, an increase of finful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Ifrael.

15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilder. Defs, and ye shall destroy all this people.

16 And they came near unto him, and faidh, We will build sheep-folds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones;

17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Ifrael, until we have brought them unto their place and our little ones thall dwell in the fenced cities, because of the inhabitants of the land.

18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Ifrael have inherited every man his inheritance:

19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder fide Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen o us on this fide Jordan cattward.

20 And Mofes faid unto them, If ye will do this thing, it ye will go armed before the LORD to war,

21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven

out his enemies from before him,

22 And the land be fubdued before the LORD; then afterward ye thall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before f. rael; and this land fhail be your poffefion before the LORD.

23 But if ye will not dofo, behold, ye have finned against the LORD: and be fure your fin will find you out.

24 Build ye cities for your little ones, and folds for your theep; and do that which hath proceeded our of your mouth.

25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben fpake unto Mofes, faying, Thy fervants will do as my lord commandeth. 20 Our little ones, our wives, our nocks, and all our cattle, thall be there in the ci Lics of Gilead;

27 But thy fervants will pafs over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to bat. tie, as my lord faith.

28 so concerning them Mofes commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the fon or Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of lfrael:

Jus for their inheritance. 29 And Mofes faid unto them, If the chil dren of Gad and the children of Reuben will pats with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle before the LORD, and the land fhall be fubdued before you, then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a poffethion:

30 But if they will not pafs over with you armed, they shall have poffeffions among you in the land of Canaan,

31 And the children of Gad and the chil dren of Reuben anfwered, faying, As the LORD hath faiduatothy fervants, fo will wedo.

22 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the pof. feifion of our inheritance on this tide Jordan may be our's.

33 And Mofes gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manaffeh the fon of Jofeph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bathan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coafts, even the cities of the country round about.

34 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehab,

36 And Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, fenced cities; and folds for fheep.

37 And the children of Reuben built Hefh bon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,

38 And Nebo, and Baal-meon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.

39 And the children of Machir the son of Manaffeh weat to Gilead, and took it, and difpoffeffed the Amorite which was in it.

40 And Mofes gave Gilead unto Machis the fun of Manaffeh; and he dwelt there. 41 And Jair the fon of Manaffeh went and took the fmall towns thereof, and called them Havoth-jair.

42 And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

the cities round about them.

3 And the cities thall they have to dwell in, and the fuburbs of them fhall be for their catrie, and for their goods, and for all their beafts.

4 And the fuburbs of the cities which ye fhall give unto the Levites, batireach from the wall of the city and outward, a thousand cubits round about.

6 And among the cities which ye thall give unto the Levites there fall be fix cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manflayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye thall add torty and two cities.

9And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying, 10 Speak unto the children of Ifrael, and fay unto them, When ye be come over Jor dan into the land of Canaan;

11 Then ye thall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the flayer may fice thither, which killeth any perfon at una

12 And they shall be unto you cities for te. fuge from the avenger; that the man-flayer die not, until he fland before the congregation in judgment.

13 And of thefe cities which ye shall give, fix cities fhall ye have for refuge.

14 Ye thall give three cities on this fide Jordan, and three cities thall ye give in the land of Canaan, which thall be cities of refuge.

15 Thefe fix cities fhall be a retuge, both for the children of Ifrael, and for the ftranger, and for the fojourner among them; that every one that killeth any perfon unawares may flee thither.

20 But if he thruft him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;

22 But if he thraft him fuddenly without enmity, or have caft upon him any thing without laying of wait;

23 Or with any filone wherewith a man may die, feeing him not, and caft it upon him that he die, and was not his enemy, neither fought his harm:

24 Then the congregation fhall judge between the layer and the revenger of blood according to thefe judgments:

25 And the congregation fhall deliver the flayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation thall rettore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled and he hall abide in it unto the death of the high prieft, which was anointed with the holy oil.

27 And the revenger of blood find! him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the flayer; he thall not be guilty of blood:

28 Becaufe he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high prieft: but after the death of the high priest the flayer thall return into the land of his poffettion.

29 So these things shall be for a ftatute of judgment unto you, throughout your generations, in all your dwellings.

30 Whoo killeth any perfon, the murderer fhall be put to death by the mou hot wineffes: but one witnefs fhall not testify against any perfon to caufe him to die.

31 Moreover, ye thau take no fatisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he fhall be furely put to death.

32 And ye shall take no fatisfaction for him that is filed to the city of his refuge, that he thould come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are; for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleanfed of the blood that is fhed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

Zelephebad's daughtery marriage. AND the chief fathers of the families of

the children of Gilead, the fon of Machir, the fon of Manatleh, of the families o the fons of Jofeph, came near, and spake hefore Mofes, and before the princes, the chief fathers of the children of Ifrael;

2 And they faid, The LORD com:sanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Ifrael: and my lord was conimanded by the LORD to give the inherit ance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters.

3 And if they be married to any of the fons of the other tribes of the children of Ifrael then fhall their inheritance be taken from thể inheritance of our fathers, and fhall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received; fo thall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.

4 And when the jubile of the children of Ifrael fhall be, then fhall their inheri ance be put unto the inheritance of the tibe where. unto they are received: fo fhall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fachers.

5 And Mofes commanded the children of Ifrael according to the word of the LORD, faying. The tribe of the fons of jofeph hath

faid well.

6 This is the thing which the LORD doth command concerning the daughters of Zelephehad, faying, Let them marry to whom they think beft; only to the family of the tribe of their father thall they marry:

7 So fhall not the inher cance of the children of frael remove from tribe to tribe t for every one of the children of Ifrael thall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

8 And every daughter that poffeffeth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Ifrael, thall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Ifrael may enjoy every man the inheritance

of his fathers.

9 Neither thall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; bu every one of the tribes of the children of Ifrael fhall keep himfelf to his own inheritance.

10 Even as the LORD commanded Mofes, fo did the daughters of Zelophehad:

For Mahlah, Tirzalı, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelo phehad, were married unto their father's brothers' fons.

12 And they were married into the families of the fons of Manaffeh, the fon of Jofeph; and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

13 These are the commandments and the judgments which the LORD commanded by the hand of Mofes unto the children of Ifrael, in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.
