39 Then certain of the fcribes anfwering, Zuid, Mafter thou haft well faid.

40 And after that they durft not ask him ny queflion at all.

41And he faid unto them, How fay they That Chrift is David's fon?

42 And David himfelt faith in the book of falms, The LORD faid unto my Lord, Sit .hou on my right hand,

43 Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his fon?

45 Then in the audience of all the peo ple, he faid unto his difciples,

46 Beware of the fcribes, which defire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest feats in the fynagogues, and the chief rooms at feafts; 47 Which devour widows' houfes, and for a thew make long prayers: the fame fhall receive greater damnation.

СНАР. XXI.

1 The poor widow is commended. 5 The deAruction of the temple and city is foretold. AND he looked up, and faw the rich men

cafting their gifts into the treasury. 2 And he faw alfo a certain poor widow cafting in thither two mites.

3 And he faid, Of a truth I fay unto you, That this poor widow hath caft in more than they all.

4 For all thefe have of their abundance cart in unto the offerings of God: but the of her penury hath caft in all the living that the had.

5¶And as fome fpake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly ftones and gifts, he faid,

6 As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there mall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

7 And they asked him, faying, Mafter, but when fhall these things be and what fign will there be when these things thall come to pafs?

8 And he faid, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many fhall come in my name, faying, I am Chrift; and the time draweth near go ye not therefore after them.

9 But when ye fhall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified; for these things must first come to pafs; but the end is not by and by.

10 Then faid he unto them, Nation fhall rife again nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

II And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and peftilences; and fearful fights, and great signs shall there be from heaven.

12 But before all these they shall lay their hands on you, and perfecute you, delivering you up to the fynagogues, and into prifons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's fake.

13 And it thall turn to you for a teftimony. 14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye thall answer:

15 For I will give you a inouth and wif dom, which all your adverfaries fhall not be able to gainsay nor refitt.

Signs foregoing the laft day.

rents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and fome of you thall they caufe to be put to death.

17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's fake.

18 But there thall not an hair of your head perish.

19 In your patience poffefs ye your fouls. 20 And when ye thall fee Jerufalem com. paffed with armies, then know that the defolation thereof is nigh.

21 Then let them which are in Judea fice to the mountains; and let them which are in the midft of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

22 For thefe be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give fuck in those days! for there shall be great diftrefs in the land, and wrath upon this people.

24 And they thall fall by the edge of the fword, and thall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerufalem thall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the

Gentiles be fulfilled.

25 And there shall be figns in the fun, and in the moon, and in the ftars; and upon the earth diftrefs of nations, with perplexity; the fea and the waves roaring;

26 Men's hearts failing them or fear, and for looking after thofe things which are com ing on the earth: for the powers of heaven thall be thaken.

27 And then fhall they fee the Son of Man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory.

28 And when these things begin to come to pafs, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;

30 When they now shoot forth, ye fee and know of your own felves that fummer is now nigh at hand.

31 So likewife ye, when ye fee these things come to pafs, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

32 Verily I fay unto you, This generation fhall not pafs away till all be fulfilled.

33 Heaven and earth fhall pafs away; but my words thall not pafs away.

34¶ And take heed to yourfelves, left at any time your hearts be overcharged with furieiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and fo that day come upon you unawares.

35 For as a fnare fhall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that thall come to pafs, and to ftand before the Son of Man.

37 And in the day-time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.

38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

10 And he laid unto them, behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the hous where he entereth

11 And ye thall fay un the good man of the house, The Mafter faith unto thee, Where is the guet-chamber, where I fhall eat the parover with my difciples!

12 And he hail thew you a large upper room furnishe: there make ready.

13 And they went, and found as he had faid to them: and they made ready the paffover.

14 And when the hour was come, he fat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

15 And he faid unto them, With defire I have dere! to eat this paffover with you before I futter.

16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thercof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17 And he took the cup and gave thanks, and faid, Take this and divide it among yourfelves:

18 For I fay unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God fhall come.

19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, faying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

20 Likewife alfo the cup after fupper, fay ing, This cup is the new teftament in my blood which is thed for you.

21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

23 And they began to enquire among themfelves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

24 And there was also a trife among them, which of them should be accounted the greaceft.

25 And he faid unto them, the kings of the Gentiles exercife lordship over them; and they that exercife authority upon them

are called benefactors.

2 But ye ball not be fo: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth ferve.

28 Ye are they which have continued wit me in my temptations:

29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, my Father hath appointed unto me;

30 That ye may eat and drink at my tak in my kingdom, and fit on thrones, jug the twelve tribes of Ifrael.

31 And the Lord faid, Simon, Sima, behold, Satan hath defired to bave you, the he may fit you as wheat:

35 And he faid unto them, When I fent you without purfe, and fcrip, and thoes, lacked ye any thing? And they laid, Nothing.

36 Then faid he unto them, But now, he that hath a purfe, let him take it, and likewife his fcrip: and he that hath no fword, let him fell his garment, and buy one.

37 For I fay unto you, That this that is written mut yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the tranf greffors: for the things concerning me have

an end.

38 And they faid, Lord, behold, here are two words. And he faid unto them, It is enough.

39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his difciples alfo followed him.

40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

41 And he was withdrawn from them about a ftone's caft, and kneeled down, and prayed,

42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove his cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done.

43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, ftrengthening him.

44 And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly: and his Tweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

45 And when he rofe up from prayer, and was come to his difciples, he found them fleeping for forrow.

46 And faid unto them, Why feep ye! Rife and pray, left ye enter into temptation.

47 And while he yet fpake, behold, a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, wert before them, and drew near unto jefus to kils him.

48 But Jefu faid unto him, Judas, betrayekt thou the Son of Man with a kifs!

49 When they which were about him faw what would follow, they aid unto him, Lord, fhall we fmite with the fword?

ut this is your hour, and the power of

larkness.

54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's houfe. And Peter followed afar off.

55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midft of the hall, and were fet down together, Peter fat down among them.

55 But a certain maid beheld him as he fat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and faid, This min was alfo with him.

57 And he denied him, faying, Woman, I know him not.

8 And after a little while, another faw him, and faid, Thou art alfo of them. And Peter faid, Man, I am not.

59 And about the fpace of one hour after, another confidently affirmed, faying, Of a truth this fellow alfo was with him; for he is a Galilean.

60 And Peter faid, Man, I know not what thou fayeit. And immediately, while he yet fpake, the cock crew.

61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter: and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had faid unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly. 63 And the men that held Jeius mocked him, and fmote him.

64 And when they had blindfolded him, they ftruck him on the face, and afked him, faying, Prophefy, Who is it that fmote thee? 65 And many other things blafphemously fpake they against him.

66 And as foon as it was day, the elders of the people, and the chief priests, and the fcribes, came together, and led him into their council, faying,

67 Art thou the Chrift! tell us. And he faid unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

69 Hereafter thall the Son of Man fit on the right hand of the power of God.

70 Then faid they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he faid unto them, Ye fay

71 And they faid, What need we any fur. ther witnefs? For we ourfelves have heard of his own mouth.

6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked

7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurifdiction, he fent him to Herod, who himself was alfo at Jerufalem at that time. 8 And when Herod faw Jefus, he was exceeding glad: for he was defirous to fee him of a long feafon, because he had heard many things of him: and he hoped to have scen fome miracle done by him.

9 Then he queftioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing. 10 And the chief priefts and fcribes flood and vehemently accufed him.

14 Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching thofe things whereof ye accuse him;

15 No, nor yet Herod: for I fent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him:

16 I will therefore chaftife him, and releafe him.

17 (For of neceffity he muft release one urto them at the feaft.)

18 And they cried out all at once, faying, Away with this man, and releafe unto us Barabbas :

19 (Who for a certain fedition made in the city, and for murder, was caft into prifon :) 20 Pilate therefore willing to releafe Jefus, spake again to them.

21 But they cried, faying, Crucify him, crucify him.

22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chaftife him, and let him go.

23 And they were inftant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified: and the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.

24 And Pilate gave fentence, that it fhould be as they required.

25 And he releafed unto them him that for fedition and murder was caft into prifon, whom they ha defired; but he delivered Jefus to their will.

26 And as they led him away, they laid but of the country, and on him they fut the cross, that he might bear it atter Jefus.

30 Then fhall they begin to fay to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. 31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what thall be done in the dry?

32 And there were alfo two others malefacters led with him to be put to death.

33 And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors: one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

34 Then faid Jefus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and caft lots.

35 And the people ftood beholding: and the rulers alfo with them derided him, fay. ing, He faved others; let him fave himleif, if he be Chrift, the chofen of God.

36 And the foldiers alfo mocked him, coming to him, and chering him vinegar,

38 And a fupericription alfo was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, faying, If thou be Chrift, fave thy felf and us.

40 But the other anfwering, rebuked him, faying, Dott not thou fear God, feeing thou art in the fame condemnation?

41. And we indeed jufly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amifs.

42 And he faid unto Jefus, Lord, remember me when thou coment into thy kingdom. 43 And Jefus faid unto him, Verily I fay unto thee, To-day thalt thou be with me in paradife.

44 And it was about the fixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

45 And the fun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midft.

46 And when Jefus had cried with a loud voice, he faid, Father, into thy hands I commend my fpirit: and, having faid thus, he gave up the gheft.

47 Now when the centurion faw what was done, he glorified God, faying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

4 And it came to pafs, as they were m perplexed thereabout, behold, two men for by them in thining garments:

5 And as they were afraid, and bowed dom their faces to the earth, they faid unto them, Why feek ye the living among the dead!

6 He is not here, but is riten: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

7 Saying, The Son of Man muft be dell vered into the hands of finful men, and be crucified, and the third day rife again.

8 And they remembered his words,

9 And retured from the fepulchre, and told all these things to the eleven, and unto all the reft.

10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apoftles.

II And their words feemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.

12 Then arofe Peter, and ran unto the fepulchre; and, ftooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pafs.

13 And, behold, two of them went that fame day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerufalem about threefcore fur. longs.

14 And they talked together of all thefe things which had happened.

15 And it came to pafs, that while they communed together, and reafoned, Jefus himself drew near, and went with them.

16 But their eyes were holden, that they fhould not know him.

17 And he faid unto them, What manner of communications are thefe that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are fad!

18 And the one of them, whofe name was Cleophas, answering, faid unto him, Art thou only a ftranger in Jerufalem, and haft not known the things which are come to pals there in these days?

19 And he faid unto them, What things! And they faid unto him, Concerning Jefus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

20 And how the chief pricfts and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to coach, and have crucified himna.

21 But we trusted that it had been he which fhould have redeemed Ifrael: and, besides all this, to-day is the third day fince these things were done.

29 But they conftrained him, faying, Abide with us; for it is towards evening, and the day is tar fpent. And he went in to tarry with them.

30 And it came to pafs, as he fat at meat with them, he took bread, and bleffed it, and brake, and gave to them.

31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their fight. 32 And they faid one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the fcriptures?

33 And they rofe up the fame hour, and returned to Jerufalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

34 Saying, The Lord is rifen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

36 And as they thus fpake, Jefus himfelf food in the midst of them, and faith unto them, Peace be unto you.

37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and fuppofed that they had seen a spirit.

39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myfelf: Handle me, and fee; for a fpirit hath not fleth and bones, as ye fee me have.

40 And when he had thus fpoken, he thew ed them bis hands and bis feet.

41 And while they yet bein ved not for joy, and wondered, he laid unto them, Have ye here any meat?

42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fifh, and of an honey-comb.

43 And he took it and did eat before them.

44 And he faid unto them, Thefe are the words which I pake unto you, wnnel was yet with you, that all things must be fulfil fed which were written in the law or Mofes, and in the prophets, and in the pfalms, con

47 And that repentance and remithion of fins fhould be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerufalem.

48 And ye are witneffes of theié things.

49 Ant, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerufalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany; and he fifted up his hands, and bleffed them.

51 And it came to pafs, while he bleffed them, he was parted from them and carried up into heaven.

52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerufalem with great joy;.

53 And were continually in the temple praising and bleiling God. Amen.

2 The fame was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

And the light fhineth in darkness; and the darknefs comprehended it not.

6 There was a man fent from God, whofe name was John.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the fons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the fleth, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glo ry as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
