Mojes's rod is

EXODUS.

14 And God faid unto Mofes, I AM THAT IAM: and he faid, Thus thalt thou fay nto the children of Ifrael, I AM hath fent me unto you.

15 And God faid moreover unto Mofes, Thus fhalt thou fay unto the children of If rael, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Ifaac, and the God ⚫f Tacob, hath fent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

16 Go and gather the elders of Ifraei_toge. ther, and fay unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of laac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, faying, I have furely visited you, and feen that which is done to you in Egypt.

17 And I have faid, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebufites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.

18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Ifrael, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall fay unto him, The LORD God of the He. brews hath met with us; and now let us go (we befeech thee) three days journey into the wilderness, that we may facrifice to the LORD our God.

19 And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty

hand.

20 And I will ftretch out my hand, and fmite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midft thereof; and after that he will let you go.

21 And I will give this people favour in the fight of the Egyptians: and it fhall come to pafs, that when ye go, ye shall not go empty: 22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that fojourneth in her house, jewels of filver, and jewels of gold, and raiment and ye shall put them upon your fons, and upon your daughters; and ye thall fpoil the Egyptians.

CHAP. IV.

1 Mofes's rod is turned into a ferpent: 6 his band is leprous.21 God's mefage to Pharaoh.

AND Mofes answered, and faid, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto niy voice: for they will fay, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.

2 And the LORD faid unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he faid, A rod.

3 And hefaid, Caft it on the ground. And he can it on the ground, and it became a ferpent: and Mofes fled from before it.

4 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand and caught it, and it be. came a rod in his hand :

5 That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Ifaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

6And the LORD faid furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bofom. And he put his hand into his bofom: and, when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprons as fnow.

And he faid, Put thine hand into thy hofom again. And he put his hand into lus bofom again, and plucked it out of his bo.

8 And it thall come to país, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the firft fign, that they will believe the voice of the latter fign.

9 And it shall come to pafs, if they will not believe alfo thefe two figns, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water, which thou takeft out of the river, fhall become blood upon the dry land.

10 And Mofes faid unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor fince thou haft fpoken unto thy fervant: but I am flow of fpeech, and of a flow tongue.

11 And the LORD faid unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the feeing, or the blind ? Have not I the LORD?

12 Now therefore, go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt fay.

13 And he faid, O my Lord, fend, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt fend.

14 And the anger of the LORD was kin.... dled againt Mofes, and he faid, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can fpeak well. And alfo, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee; and when he feeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

15 And thou shalt fpeak unto him, and put words in his mouth and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye fhall do.

16 And he thall be thy fpokefman unto the people: and he thall be, even he thall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou thalt be to him instead of God.

17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do figns.

18 And Mofes went, and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and faid unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and fee whe ther they be yet alive. And Jethro faid to Mofes, Go in peace.

19 And the LORD faid unto Mofes in Mi

dian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men
are dead which fought thy life.

20 And Mofes took his wife, and his fons,
and fet them upon an afs, and he returned

Mofes complaineth to God.

24 So he let him go; then the faid, A them, were beaten, and demanded, Where Noody husband thou art, because of the cir. fore have ye not fulfilled your talk in mak tamcition. ing brick, both yesterday and to-day, as heretofore!

And the LORD faid to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Mofes. And be Kent, and met him in the mount of God, and kiffed him.

18 And Mofes told Aaron all the words of the Lord, who had fent him, and all the fges which he had commanded him

And Mofes and Aaron went, and gathered together all the elders of the children of lirael.

30 And Aaron fpake all the words which Ge LORD had spoken unto Mofes, and did the figns in the night of all the people.

31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the chiaren of ifrael, and that be had looked apon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worthipped. CHAP. V.

1 Pbaranb chideth Mofes and Aaron : 5 be increafeth the Ifraelites' tajk : 22 mojes complaineth to God.

ND afterward Mofes and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus faith the LORD God of lfrael, Let my people go, that they may hold a feat unto me in the wilderness."

2 And Pharaoh faid, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Ifrael go! I know not the LORD, neither will I let Ifrael go.

3 And they faid, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days journey into the defert, and facrisce unto the LORD our God: left he fall upon us with peftilence, or with the Sword.

4 and the king of Egypt faid unto them, Wherefore do ye, Mofes and Aaron, let the people from their works? Get you unto your burdens.

15 Then the officers of the children of Ifrael came and cried unto Pharaoh, fay ing, Wherefore dealett thou thus with thy fervants

16 There is no ftraw given unto thy fer. vants, and they fay to us, Make brick: and behold, thy férvants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.

17 But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle; therefore ye fay, Let us go and do facrifice to the LORD.

18 Go therefore now, and work: for there fhall no ftraw be given you, yet thall ye de. liver the tale of bricks.

19 And the officers of the children of If rael did fee that they werein evil cafe, arter it was faid, ye thall not minish ought irom your bricks of your daily task.

20 And they met Moles and Aaron, whe flood in the way, as they came torth from Pharaoh;

21 and they faid unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our favour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pha rach, and in the eyes of his fervants, to put afword in their hands to lay us.

22 And Mofes returned unto the LORD, and faid, LORD, whereiore haft thou so evil-entreated this people! Why is it that thou haft fent me!

23 For fince I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people : neither haft thou delivered thy people at all. CHAP. VI.

1 God reneweth his promife by his name 3 E. HOVAH. 14 The genealogy of Reuben, 15 of Simeon, 16 of Levi, of whom came Mofes and Aaron.

$ And Pharaoh faid, Behold, the people of THEN the LORD faid unto Mofes, Now

the land now are many, and ye make them reit from their burdens.

6 And Pharaoh commanded the fame day the task-matters of the people, and their of ficers, faying,

7 Ye fhall no more give the people ftraw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather firaw for themielves.

8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretotore, ye fhall lay upon them; ye thall not diminimh ought thereor: for they be idle; therefore they cry, faying, Let us go and facrifice to our God.

9 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let theni not regard vain words.

10 And the task-mafters of the people went out, and their officers, and they fpake to the people, faying, Thus faith Pharaoh, I will not give you ftraw.

13 And the taik-maiters hafted them, faylag, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was ftraw,

14 And the officers of the children of Ifrael, which Pharaoh's task-mafters had fet over

fhalt thou fee what I will do to Pharaoh : for with a strong hand fhall he let them go, and with a ftrong hand fhall he drive them out of his land.

2 And God fpake unto Mofes, and faid unto him, I am the LORD.

3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Ifaac, and unto jacob, by the name of God Almighty; but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

4 And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were ftrangers.

5 And I have alfo heard the groaning of the children of Ifrael, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my co venant.

6 Wherefore fay unto the children of Ifrael, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyp tians, and I will rid you out of their bondage; and I will redeem you with a stretched-out arm, and with great judgments.

7 And I will take you to me for a people, and 1 will be to you a God: and ye that know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did fwear to give it to Abraham, to Ifaac, and to jacob; and

Mofes's rod becomes a ferpent.

I will give it you for an heritage: I am the hold, I am of uncircumcifed lips, and how fhall Pharaoh hearken unto me?

LORD.

9 And Mofes fpake fo unto the children of Ifrael: but they hearkened not unto Moles for anguish of fpirit, and for cruel bondage.

10 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying, 11 Go in, fpeak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Ifrael

go out of his land.

12 And Mofes (pake before the LORD, faying, Behold, the children of Ifrael have not hearkened unto me; how then thal Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcifed lip:?

13 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Ifrael, and anto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of If rael out of the land of Fgypt.

14 Thele be the heads of their fathers houfes: The fons of Reuben, the firft-horn of Ifrael; Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi: these be the families of Reuben.

15 And the fons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul, the fon of a Canaanitish woman: thefe are the amilies of Simeon.

16And these are the names of the fons of Levi, according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. And the years of the lite of Levi were an hundred thirty and feven years.

17 The fons af Gerthon; Libni, and Shimi, according to their families.

18 And the fons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were an hundred thirty and three years.

19 And the fons of Merari; Mahli, and Muthi thefe are the families of Levi, according to their generations.

20 And Amram took him Jochebed, his father's fitter, to wite; and the bare him Aaron and Mofes. And the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and fevca years.

21 And the fons of Izhar; Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri.

22 And the fons of Uzziel; Mifhael, and Elzaphan, and Zithri.

23 And Aaron took him Elifheba, daughter of Amminadab, fifter of Naafhon, to wife; and the bare him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

24 And the fons of Korah; Affir, and F1kanah, and Abiafaph: these are the families cfthe Korhites.

25 And Eleazar, Aaron'sion, took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and the bare him Phinehas: thefe aethe headsof the fathers of the Levites, according to their iamilies.

26 Thefe are that Aaron and Moles, to whom the LORD faid. Bring out the children of Ifrael from the land of Egypt, according to their armies.

27 Thefe are they which (pake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, bring out the children of Ifrael from Egypt: these are that Mofes and

Aaron.

28 And it came to pafs, on the day whenthe Los fpake unto Mofes in the land of Egypt, 29 That the LORD fpake unto Mofes, fay. ing, I am the LORD: (peak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee.

30 And Motes faid before the LORD, Be

CHAP. VII.

1 Mofes is encouraged to go to Pharaoh: wo the
rod is turned to a ferpent.13 Pharaoh's heart
is hardened. 19 The river is turned to blood.

AND the LORD faid unto Mofes, See, 1
have made thee a god to Pharaoh; and
Aaron thy brother fhall be thy prophet.

2 Thou shalt fpeak all that I command thee; and Aaron thy brother fhall fpeak, unto Pharaoh, that he fend the children of Ifrael out of his land.

3 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my figas and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

4 But Pharaoh fhall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon gypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Ifrael, out of the land of Egypt, by great judgments.

5 And the Egyptians fhall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch torth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Ifrael from among them.

6 And Mofes and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, fo did they.

7 And Mofes was tourfcore years old, and Aaron fourfcore and three years old, when they fpake unto Pharaoh.

8 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes and unto Aaron, faying,

9 When Pharaoh thall (peak unto you, faying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt fay unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and caft it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a ferpent.

10 And Mofes and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did fo as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron caft down his rod before Pharach, and before his fervants, and it became a ferpent.

11 Then Pharaoh alfo called the wife men, and the forcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments:

12 For they cant down every man his rod, and they became ferpents: but Aaron's rod fwallowed up their Bods.

13 and he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had faid.

14 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refufeth to let the people go.

15 Get thee unto Pharaoh is the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water, and thou thalt ftand by the river's brink againft he come; and the rod which was turned to a ferpent halt thou take in thine hand.

16 And thou thait ay unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath fent me unto thee, faying, let my people go, that they may ferve me in the wildernefs: and, behold, hitherto thou woulder not hear

17 Thus faith the LORD, In this thou fhalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will fmite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.

18 And the fish that is in the river fhall die, and the river thall tink; and the Egyp tians thall lothe to drink of the water of the river.

The plague of frogs.

Pharaoh is hardened.

and from thy houses, and from thy fervants, and from thy people; they thall remain in the river only.

Chap, vlil.. thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their dreams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and thur there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vefels of wood, and in vefels of tone.

And Mofes and Aaron did fo, as the Lexy commanded; and he lifted up the rod, (note the waters that were in the river, In the fight of Pharaob, and in the fight of his ervants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

11 Ani the fish that was in the river died; and the river flank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river: and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.

And the magicians of Fgypt did fo with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them, as the LORD had faid.

3 And Pharaoh turned, and went into his house, neither did he fet his heart to this alfo. 24 And all the Fgyptians digged round about the river for water to drink for they could not drink of the water of the river.

25 And Leven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had fmitten the river.

CHAP. VIII.

1 Frogs are Jent. 16 The duff turned into lice. to The warms of flies. 32 Pharaoh is fill hardened.

AND the LORD fpake unto Mofes, Go unto Pharoah, and fay unto him, Thus faith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may ferve me.

a And it thou retufe to let them go, behold, I will fmite all thy borders with frogs:

3 And the rivers shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which fhall go up, and come into thine houfe, and into thy bed-chamber, and apes thy bed, and into the houfe of thy fervants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, led into thy kneading-troughs:

4 And the frogs fhall come up, both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy Servants.

5And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, Say unte Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the ftreams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and caule irogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.

6 And Aaron ftretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

7. And the magicians did fo with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.

8 Then Pharaoh called for Mofes and Aaron, and faid, Fntreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do facrifice unto the LORD.

9 And Mofes faid unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when thall I entreat for thee, and for thy fervants, and for thy people, to deftroy the frogs from tice and thy houfes, that they may remain in the river only?

10 And he laid, To-morrow. And he faid, Ber according to thy word; that thou mayen know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.

And the frogs fall depart from thee,

12 And Mofes and Aaron went out from Pharaoh; and Mofes cried unto the LORD, because of the frogs which he had brought againft Pharaoh.

13 And the LORD did according to the word of Mofes; and the trogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.

14 And they gathered them together upon heaps and the land tank.

15 But whes Pharaoh faw that here was refpite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them: as the LORD had faid.

And the LORD faid unto Moles, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and fmite the duft of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Fgypt.

17 And they did fo; for Aaron ftretched out his hand with his rod and fmote the duft of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beaft; all the duft of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.

18 And the magicians did fo with their enchantments to bring worth lice, but they could not: fo there were lice upon man, and upon beast.

19 Then the magicians faid unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had faid.

20 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Rife

up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water: and fay unto him, Thus faith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may ferve me."

21 Elfe, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will fend (warms pies upon thee, and upon thy fervants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houfes of the Egyptians thall be full of fwarms of flies, and alfo the ground whereon they are.

22 And I will fever in that day the land of Cothen, in which my people dwell, that no fwarns of flies fhall be there; to the end thou mayet know that I am the LORD in the

midft of the earth

23 And I will put a divifion between my people and thy people: to-morrow thall this fign be.

24 And the LORD did fo; and there came a grievous fwarm of fies into the houfe of Pharaoh, and into his fervants, houses, and into all the land of Egypt; the land was cor rupted by reafon of the warms of res.

25 And Pharaoh calied for Mofes and for Aaron, and iaid, Go ye, facrifice to your God in the land.

26 And Mofes faid, It is not meet foto do: for we fhall facrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our Cod: lo, shall we facrifice the abomination of the gyptians before their eyes, and will they not tone us!

27 We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and facrifice to the LORD our God, as he fhall command us.

28 And Pharaoh faid, I will let you go, that ye may facrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away entreat for me.

29 And Mofes fai 1, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will entreat the LoRr that the fwarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his fervants, and from his people, to

unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus faith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may ferve me.

2 For if thou refufe to let them go, and wilt hold them still,

3 Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the borfes, upon the affes, upon the camels, upOn the oxen, and upon the theep: there ball be a very grievous murrain.

4 And the Lost fhall fever between the cattle of Ifrael and the cattle of Egypt and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Ifrael.

5 And the LORD appointed a fet time, faying, To-morrow the LORD thall do this thing in the land.

6 And the LORD did that thing on the mor row, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Ifrael died

not one.

7 And Pharaoh fent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Ifraelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.

8 And the LORD faid unto Mofes and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of athes of the furnace, and let Mofes fprinkle it to ward the heaven in the fight of Pharaoh.

9 And it fhall become mali duft in all the land of Egypt, and thall be a boil breaking forth with blans upon man, and upon beaft, throughout all the land of Egypt.

10 And they took afhes of the furnace, and ftood before Pharaoh; and Mofes fprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beaft.

And the magicians could not ftand be fore Mofes because of the boils for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.

12 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Mofes.

13 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Rife up early in the morning, and ftand before Pharaoh, and fay unto him, Thus faith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may ferve me.

14 For I will at this time fend all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy fervants, and upon thy people; that thou mayeft know that there is none like me in

all the earth.

15 For now I will ftretch out my hand, that I may fmite thee and thy people with peftile :ce; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.

16 And in very deed for this cause have I

raifed thee up, for to fhew in thee my power: and that my name may be declared through out all the earth.

17 As yet exalteft thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go!

18 Behold, to-morrow about this time,1 will caufe it to rain a very grievous hail, fuch as hath not been in Egypt fince the foundation thereof even until now.

19 Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hart in the field; for upon every man and beart which thall be found in the field, and fhall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.

20 He that feared the word of the LORD. among the fervants of Pharaoh made his fervants and his cattle flee into the houses:

21 And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his fervants and his cattle in the field.

22 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beaft, and upon every herb of the field throughout the land of Egypt.

23 And Mofes ftretched forth his rod to. ward heaven: and the LORD fent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, fuch as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt fince it became a nation.

25 And the hail fmote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beart; and the hail fimote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the fiel 1.

26 Only n the land of Gothen, where the children of Ifrael were, was there no

hail.

27 And Pharaoh fent, and called for Mo fes and Aaron, and faid unto them, I have finned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.

28 Entreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye thall stay no longer.

29 And Mofes faid unto him, As foon as I am gone out of the city, I will fpread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall ceafe, neither thall there be any more hail that thou mayeit know how that the earth is the LORD's.

30 But as for thee and thy fervants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.

31 And the flax and the barley was fmit ten for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled,

32 But the wheat and the rye were not fmitten for they were not grown up.

33 And Mofes went out of the city from Pharaoh, and fpread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceated, and the rain was not poured upon

the earth.

34 And when Pharaoh faw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceafed, he fin ed yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his fervants.

35 And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened,
