And the earth was without form,

3¶ And God faid, Let there be light:
and there was light.

4 And God in the light, that it was good:
and God divided the light from the darkness.
5. And God, called the light Day, and the
darkacis he called Night. And the evening
and the morning were the first day.

6 And God faid, Let there be a firma. ment in the mid of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

44¶And God faid, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cat tle, and creeping thing, and beat of the earth after his kind: and it was fo.

25 And God made the heart of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind; and God faw that it was good.

25 And God faid, let us make man in our image, alter our likenets; and let them have dominion over the fith of the fea, and over the towl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his oren image; in the image of God created he him: male and temale created he them.

28 And God bleffed them; and God faid unto them, Be fruitful, aud multiply, and replenish the earth, and fubdue it and have dominion over the fish of the tea, and over the towl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

29¶ And God faid, Behold I have given you every herb bearing feed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding feed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beart of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat and it was fo.

31 And God faw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evenin, and the morning were the fixth day.

CHA P. II.

THUS the heavens and the earth were

finished, and all the host of them.

2. And on the feventh day God ended his work which he had made and he rented on the feventh day from all his work which he had made.

The garden of Eden.

GENESIS. vens and of the earth when they were cre ated; in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew for the LORD God had not caufed it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7 And the LORD God formed man of the duit of the ground, and breathed into his nottrils the breath of lite: and man became a living foul.

8And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleafant to the fight, and good for food: the tree of life allo in the midit of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

11 The name of the first is Pifon: that is it which compaffeth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx-ftone.

13 And the name of the fecond river is Gihon: the fame is it that compaffeth the whole land of Ethiopia.

14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Affyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden, to drefs it, and to keep it.

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, faying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayent freely eat;

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatent thereof thou shalt furely die.

18 And the LORD God faid, It is not good that the man thould be alone: I will make him an help meet for him.

19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beatt of the field, and every fowl of the air, and brought them unto Adam, to fee what he would call them and whatfoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beaft of the field: but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21 And the LORD God caufed a deep fleep to fall upon Adam, and he lept: and he took one of his ribs, and clofed up the flesh instead thereof.

22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23 And Adam faid, This is now bone of my bones, and fleth of my fleth; the hall pe called Woman; becaufe he was taken

OW the ferpent was more fubtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he faid unto the wo man, Yea, hath God faid, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman faid unto the ferpent, We may cat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midft of the garden, God hath faid, Ye thall not eat or it, neither thall ye touch it, lett ye die.

4 And the ferpent faid unto the woman, Ye shall not furely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes fhall be opened and ye fhall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman faw that the tree as good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be defired to make me wife, the took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and gave alfo unto her hutband with ner, and he did eat.

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked: and they fewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and Adam and his wife hid them. felves from the prefence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and faid unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myfelf.

II And he faid, Who told thee that thou was naked Hat thou eaten of the tree, whereot I commanded thee that thou thouldeft not eat?

12 And the man faid, The woman, whom thou gavest to be with me, the gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the LORD God faid unto the wo man, What is this that thou haft done? And the woman faid, The ferpent beguiled me, and I did cat.

14 And the LORD God faid unto the fer pent, Because thou haft done this, thou art curfed above all cattle, and above every beaft of the field: upon thy belly fhalt thou go, and dust flialt thou eat all the days of thy life.

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy feed and her feed it shall bruife thy head, and thou thalt bruife his heel.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy forrow and thy conception; in forrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy defire ball be to thy husband, and be thall rule over thee.

17 And unto Adam he faid, Because thou haft hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and haft eaten of the tree of which I com manded thee, faying, Thou shalt not eat

CHAP. IV.

ND Adami knew Eve his wife and the
conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I
have gotten a man from the LORD.
2 And the again bare his brother Abel.
And Abel was a keeper of theep, but Cain
was a tiller of the ground.

And in process of time it came to pafs,
that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground
an offering unto the LORD.

4 And Abel, he alfo brought of the firft. lings of his flock, and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had refpeét unto Abel, and to his offering:

5 Bat usto Cain and to his offering he had not refpect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance tell.

6 And the LORD faid unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen!

8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother:
and it came to pafs, when they were in the

12 When thou tilleft the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her ftrength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in

the earth.

13 And Cain faid unto the LORD, My punifhment is greater than I can bear.

14 Behold, thou haft driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from

Lamech and his wives.

thy face fhall I be hid; and I fhall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth: and it thall come to pass, that every one that findeth me thall day me.

15 And the LORD faid unto him, Terefore whofoever flayeth Cain, vengeance thall be taken on him seven-fold. And the LORD fet a mark upon Cain, left any finding him mould kill him.

16¶And Cain went out from the prefence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

17 And Cain knew his wife, and the conceived, and bare Fnoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his fon, Enoch.

18 And unto Enoch was orn Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methufael: and Methufael begat Lamech.

19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the fa ther of fuch as dwell in tents, and of fuch at bave cattle.

21 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all fuch as handle the harp and organ.

22 And Zillah, the alfo bare Tubal-cain, an inftructer of every artificer in brafs and iron: and the fifter of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23 And Lamech faid unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my fpeech: for I have lain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

24 If Cain thall be avenged feven-fold, tru ly Lamech feventy and feven-told.

25 And Adam knew his wite again; and the bare a fon, and called his name Seth: For God, faid be, hath appointed me ano. ther feed instead of Abel, whom Cain flew.

26 And to Seth, to him alfo there was born a fon; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

CHAP. V.

1 The genealogy, age, and death, of the pa
triarchs, from Adam unto Noah. 24 The

2 Male and female created he them, and bleiled them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

3¶And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a fon in his own likenets after his image; and called his name Seth.

4 And the days of Adim, after he had begotten Seth, were eight hundred years; and he begat fons and daughters.

5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos.

7 And Set lived, after he begat Enos, eight hundred and feven years, and begat fons and daughters.

8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.

9 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan.

14 And all the days of Cainan were wine hundred and ten years: and he died.

15 And Mahalaleel lived fixty and five years, and begai jared.

16 And Mahalaleel lived, after he begat Jared, eight hundred and thirty years, and begat fons and daughters.

17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years and

Noah findeth grace.

days: and alfo after that, when the fons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the fame became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

3 And God faw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evi: continually.

6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the LORD faid, I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, both man and beart, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air: for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 But Noah found grace the eyes of the LORD.

9 Thefe are the generations of Noah: Noah was a juft man, and pertect in his ger. erations, and Noah walked with God.

10 And Noah begat three fons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth."

11 The earth aifo was corrupt before God; and the earth was filled with violence.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt: for all fleth had corrupted his way upon the earth.

13 And God faid unto Noah, The end of all fieth is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them: and, behold, I will deftroy them with the earth.

14 Make thee an ark of gopher-wood: rooms fhalt thou make in the ark, and fhalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of the length of the ark fhall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the neight of it thirty cubits.

16 A window thalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark fhalt thou fet in the fide thereof: with lower, fecond, and third fiories shalt thou make it.

17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all fieth, wherein is the breath of lite, from under heaven: and every thing that is in the earth fhall die.

18 But with thee will I establish my cove nant: and thou that come into the ark; thou, and thy fons, and thy wife, and thy fons wives with thee.

19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every fort thalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they thall be male and female.

20 Uitowls atter their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth atter his kind: two of every fort thail come unto thee, to keep them alive.

21 And take thou unto thee of all food that
is eaten, and thou that gather it to thee; and
ithall be for food for thee, and for them.

24 Thus did Noah; according to all that
God commanded him, fo did he.
CHAP. VII.

1 Noah, with his family, enter into the
ark. 17 The beginning, increase, and
continuance of the food.
