danger; but that all my doings may be ordered by Thy governance, to do always that is righteous in Thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, Who knowest us to be set in the midst of so many and great dangers, that by reason of the frailty of our nature we cannot always stand upright: Grant to me such strength and protection, as may support me in all dangers, and carry me through all temptations; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Whatever is true, whatever is honest,
whatever just, whatever pure,

whatever lovely, whatever of good report,
if there be any virtue, if any praise,
such thoughts, such deeds,

this day vouchsafe, O Lord.

[BP. A.]

Here pray for any particular grace thou needest; for form, vide Appendix.

[INTERCESSION.]

Almighty and everliving God, Who by Thy holy Apostle hast taught us to make prayers and supplications, and to give thanks, for all men: Save and defend all Christian Kings, Princes, and Governors; and specially Thy servant Victoria our Queen ; that under her we may be godly and quietly governed: Give grace, O heavenly Father,

to all Bishops, and especially to him who is over this diocese; and to all other Pastors of Thy flock, that both by their life and doctrine they may set forth Thy glory, and set forward the salvation of all men and specially to him set over me; replenish him with the truth of Thy doctrine, clothe him with righteousness, and endue him with innocency of life. And to all Thy people give Thy heavenly grace, and especially [here pray for parents, friends, &c., all who may need thy prayers] and bring them to Thine everlasting kingdom: Grant this, O Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

[PRAISE.]

Glory be to God on high,
on earth peace,
good will towards men.
I praise Thee,
I bless Thee,
I worship Thee,

I glorify Thee,

I give thanks to Thee,
for Thy great glory,

O Lord God, Heavenly King, God the Father

Almighty,

O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon me.

Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive my prayer.

Thou that sittest at the right hand of the Father, have mercy upon me.

For Thou only art Holy,
Thou only art the Lord,
Thou only, O Christ,
with the Holy Ghost,

art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

D

FORMS OF BRIEF PRAYER.

The following three Forms of brief Prayer are intended for those who wish to preserve through the day a due sense of God's mercies.

For 9 o'clock :

Thou, that at the third hour didst send down Thy Holy Ghost

on the Apostles,

take not that same Holy Spirit from us,
but renew Him every day in our hearts ;
and deliver us.

[BP. ANDREWES.]

Then, if it be possible, kneel down, and say,

God, Who as at this time didst teach the hearts of Thy faithful people, by the sending to them the light of Thy Holy Spirit; Grant me by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in His holy comfort; through the merits of Christ Jesus our

Saviour, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

For 12 o'clock :

Thou, that at the sixth hour of the sixth day, didst nail together with Thyself on the Cross the sins of the world,

blot out the handwriting of our sins
that is against us,

and, taking it away, deliver us.

[BP. ANDREWES.]

Almighty and everlasting God, Who, of Thy tender love towards mankind, hast sent Thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, to take upon Him our flesh, and to suffer death upon the Cross, that all mankind should follow the example of His great humility; Mercifully grant, that I may both follow the example of His Patience, and also be made partaker of His Resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For 3 o'clock:

Thou, that at the ninth hour for us sinners and for our sins, didst taste of death, mortify our members which are upon the earth, and whatsoever is contrary to Thy will; and deliver us.

[BP. ANDREWES.]
