III.-CIRCUMSTANCES OF PRAYER.

1. Kneeling.

He kneeled down, and prayed. Luke xxii. 41. He went a little further, and fell on His face, and prayed. Matth. xxvi. 39.

I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to Thee, my God. Ezra ix. 6.

V.-CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTABLE PRAYER.

1. A right Faith.

Whatsoever ye shall ask in My Name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John xiv. 13.

Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus. Col. iii. 17.

Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

2. A right life.

If My words abide in you.

1 Cor. iii. 11.

John xv. 7.

Let every one, that nameth the name of Christ, depart from iniquity. 2 Tim. ii. 19.

If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me. Ps. lxvi. 18.

3. That we be members of His body.

If ye abide in Me. John xv. 7.

4. A confidence as to the subject of our prayer. Whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Matth. xxi. 22.

Believe that ye receive, and ye shall have. Mark xi. 24.

5. Perseverance.

Men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Luke xviii. 1.

Because of his importunity he will rise and give him what he needeth. Luke xi. 8.

VI.-FOR WHOM PRAYER IS TO BE MADE.

1. For all men. 1 Tim. ii. 1.

2. For Kings. 1 Tim. ii. 1.

Pray for the life of the king. Ezra vi. 10.

3. All in authority. 1 Tim. ii. 1. Cf. Rom. xiii. 1, Tit. iii. 1.

4. God's ministers.

Prayer was made without ceasing of the Church unto God for him. Acts xii. 5.

Strive together with me in your prayers to God Rom. xv. 30.

By prayer for us. 2 Cor. i. 11.

5. For the faithful.

Without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers. Rom. i. 9.

Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers. Col. iv. 12.

6. The land we live in.

Seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it. Jer. xxix. 7.

My prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. Rom. x. 1.

Making mention of thee always in my prayers. Philem. 4.
