the tree of life. Rom. v. 12. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin ; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Rom. vi. 23. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. viii. 10. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. Rom. vi. 12, 13. 19-22. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. I speak after the manner of men, because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness, and to iniquity unto iniquity; eren so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. Eccles. xii. 6,7. Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Gen. iii. 19. In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. Gal. vi. 7, 8. Be not deceived ; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh, shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. I Cor. yii. 29–31. and they that weep as though they wept not ; and they that rejoice as though they rejoiced not; and they
that buy as though they possessed not; and they that use this world as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away. Phil. ii. 12, 13. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence also, but: now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Heb. ii. 3. How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation: which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him. Heb. iii. 13, 14 But exhort one another daily, while it is called to-day ; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end. 2 Tim. ii. 5. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned except he strive lawfully. 1 Cor. ix. 24. Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run that ye may obtain. Heb. xii. 1. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. 1 Pet. i. 6, 7. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are “in heaviness through manifold temptations : that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory, at the appearing of Jesus Christ. Heb. xii, 17. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears. John ix. 4. I must work the works of him that sent me while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work. Luke xx. 37, 38. Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Matt. xxii. 31, 32. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abra
ham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. Isai. Ivii. 1, 2. The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. Rev. xiv. 12. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Luke xxiii. 43. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: we are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. Jude 6, 7. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about em in the like manner, giving themselves over to fornication and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Matt. xxiv. 3, 4, 5. 30, 31. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said, Take heed that no man deceive you. For
many shall come in my name, saying, I am Cbrist, and shall deceive many. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Rev. x. 5, 6. things that are therein, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer. Job xix. 25–27. For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: whom I shall see for myself and mine eyes shall behold, and not another: though my reins be consumed within me. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by bis Spirit that dwelleth in you. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we our, selves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of the body. Dan. xii. 2. And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Acts xxiv. 15. And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. Job v. 28, 29. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the grave shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
