This is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Heb. xi. 6. But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that dilgently seek him. 2 John vi. And this is love that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That (as ye have heard from the beginning) ye should walk in it. Psal. Ixxxix. 30, 31, 32. If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; if they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments ; Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

thing shall I'do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good ? there is none good but one, that is God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness ; Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. James ii. 8.a (See above.) Mark 'vii. 6–9. He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit, in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups : and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. Luke xvi. 17. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail, Rom. x. 5. For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth · those things shall live by them. Gal. iii. 10. 12, 13. (Sce above.) Rom. x. 4. (See above.) Rom. viii. 2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 1 Cor. xv. 56, 57. The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law ; But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Gal. v. 13–15. For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
But if yc bite and devour one another, take heed ye be not. consumed one of another.
SECTION VI. Psal. xix. 7. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Deut. vi. 5. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Matt. xxii. 37–39. (See above.) Rom. vii. 14. For we know that the law is spiritual ; but I am carnal, sold under sin. Mark xii. 30. For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother; and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever' shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thoù mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ephes. iv, 28. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Matt. v. 21, 22. 27, 28. Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill ; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment : But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Ye have heard that it was said
by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery : But I say anto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Heb. X. 24, 25. And let us consider one another, to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is ; but exhorting one another: and so much the more as ye see the day approaching. 1 Thess. v. 22. Abstain from all appearance of evil. Gal. v. 26. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Col. iji. 21. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. Gen. i. 26, 27. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image ; in the image of God created he him ; male and female created he them. I Cor. xi. 11, 12. Nevertheless, neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without tbe man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 1 Tim. ii. 8-10. I will therefore that men pray everywhere, 'lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broidered hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
