LINES,

Written October 6, 1806,

By the Rev. George Richards.

Ah! deareft Mufe, whofe carol gay
Hath brighten'd ev'n my fummer's way;
No more we roam through Nuneham's wood,
Nor fing by Ifis' claffic flood;

Those scenes where pafs'd our happier hours,

Thofe lovely scenes, no more are ours.

December forms muft roll away,

And fummer funs illume the day,
Ere again, delightful power,

By Whitehead's oak, or Mason's bower,
We bid the fong in rapture rife
To Harcourt's flowery Paradise.

Yes, sweetest maid, again thy shell
Shall found along each vocal dell;
Again from yonder elmy brow
Shall thy sprightly measures flow;
And, reclin'd by Ifis' ftream,
Thy poet wait the inspiring dream.

Now far we go-yet wake the wire
To ftrains which gratitude infpire,
For focial hours by Fancy cheer'd,
For joys by Friendship's fmile endear'd.
Ere fade the difappearing view,

Ah turn, and breathe a warm adieu.
