Page 137 - That there shall be at the seat of Government a Department of Labor, the general design and duties of which shall be to acquire and diffuse among the people of the United States useful information on subjects connected with labor, in the most general and comprehensive sense of that word, and especially upon its relation to capital, the hours of labor, the earnings of laboring men and women, and the means of promoting their material, social, intellectual, and moral prosperity.
Page 780 - Is hereby declared to be the policy of the Congress that adequate telephone service be made generally available in rural areas through the improvement and expansion of existing telephone facilities and the construction and operation of such additional facilities as are required to assure the availability of adequate telephone service to the widest practicable number of rural users of such service.
Page 97 - ... board consists of six members (in addition to the Secretary of Agriculture), who are appointed by the President of the United States by and with the advice and consent of the Senate. In addition to the board of directors, the CCC has a five-member advisory board, the members of which are appointed by the President of the United States.

Page 315 - Federal meat inspection laws to assure production of disease-free, clean, and wholesome meat and meat products for both civilian and military use and for foreign commerce. This is accomplished by supervising slaughtering and meat processing operations at meat packing plants, application of controls over imported meats to assure the same protection as in the case of meats produced domestically, and supervision of a system of certifying meats for export to keep foreign markets open to American meats.
