ADMIRAL ROBERT WAUCHOPE was the youngest who attained the age of manhood of the seven sons of Andrew Wauchope of Niddrie-Marischall, in the county of Edinburgh, Esquire, and Alice Baird his wife, fourth daughter of William Baird of Newbyth, in the county of Haddington, Esquire. They had also seven daughters, five of whom attained the age of majority. Admiral Wauchope entered early into the naval service of his country; and, the year before he died, he attained the rank of Admiral of the Blue Squadron. He was born at Niddrie on the 5th day of December 1788, and died at Edinburgh on the 14th of June 1862. The year before he died, he began to write the Narrative of the events of his life which follows. |
