Kiel. F. Holthausen. Sir David Lyndsays Anspielungen auf mittelenglische Dichtungen. In der Dichtung des Sir David Lyndsay finden wir nicht nur an allen Orten und Enden epische Formeln, Vergleiche, Schwüre verwendet, die uns aus den Ritterromanzen des Mittelalters vertraut sind, sondern auch deren Hauptgestalten werden oft in ihr erwähnt. Diese Vorliebe Lyndsays für die Sagenund Märchenwelt der Vergangenheit hat schon manchem modernen Herausgeber zu einem willkommenen Beweis für die Verbreitung und Beliebtheit der von ihm behandelten Dichtung verholfen. Bei ihm fand Weber die einzige uns bekannte Anspielung auf das englische Alexanderbuch, und auch die Editoren der Romanze von Sir Gray Steel und der strophischen Dichtung von Golagrus und Gawain haben sich gern auf Lyndsays Zeugnis berufen. Auch mit dem Gast of Gy ist Lyndsay schon von Dyce in seiner Skelton - Ausgabe vol. II p. 184 f. in Verbindung gebracht worden, worauf Schleich in dem Vorworte seiner PalaestraAusgabe des nach diesem Geist betitelten Gedichtes gebührend aufmerksam gemacht hat. Dyce hat auf eine Stelle in The Epistil to the Kingis Grace hingewiesen vor der Dichtung "The Dreme', in welcher Lyndsay den jungen König daran erinnert, wie er ihn in seiner Kindheit gehegt und gepflegt habe, wie er, um ihn zu ergötzen, für ihn zur Laute gesungen, getanzt, allerlei ' Vgl. seine 'Metrical Romances' vol.
