PREFACE.

THE following Poem was written at the close of the past year, and hence the repeated reference throughout to that particular season.

To the contemplative mind, the commencement of a new year gives rise to a varied train of thought,-embracing multitudinous reflections, both of a personal and general character. The rapidity of the flight of time, and the shortness and uncertainty of the tenure of life, of necessity force themselves on the reflective mind.
