Cease thy complaint, suppress thy groan, And let thy tears forget to flow: Behold! the precious balm is found; Which lulls thy pain-which heals thy wound. 2 Come, freely come, by sin oppress'd; Unburden here thy weighty load; Here find thy refuge and thy rest, Safe in the mercy of thy God: Thy God's thy Saviour: glorious word! O hear, believe, and bless the Lord!

As spring the winter, day the night,
Peace sorrow's gloom shall chase away;
And smiling Joy, a seraph bright,

Attend thy steps, and near thee stay: While glory weaves the' immortal crown, And waits to claim thee for her own.

HYMN 209. (L, M.)

Jesus a compassionate High-Priest. Heb 4. 15.
1 WHEN gathering clouds around I view,
And days are dark, and friends are few,
On Him I lean, who, not in vain,
Experienced every human pain;
He sees my wants, allays my fears,
And counts and treasures up my tears,

2 If ought should tempt my soul to stray
From heavenly wisdom's narrow way,
To flee the good I would pursue,
Or do the sin I would not do,

Still He, who felt temptation's power,
Shall guard me in that dangerous hour.

3 When vexing thoughts within me rise,'
And sore dismay'd my spirit dies,
Yet He, who once vouchsafed to bear
The sickening anguish of despair,
Shall sweetly soothe, shall gently dry,
The throbbing heart, the streaming eye.
4. And, oh! when I have safely past
Through every conflict, but the last,
Still, Lord, unchanging, watch beside
My dying bed, for Thou hast died;
Then point to realms of cloudless day,
And wipe the latest tear away.

"The preparations of the heart in man." Prov. 16. 1.
1 LORD, teach us how to pray aright,
With reverence and with fear;
Though dust and ashes in thy sight,
We may, we must draw near:
God of all grace! we come to Thee,
With broken, contrite hearts ;-
Give, what thine eye delights to see,
Truth in the inward parts:-

3 Give deep humility;-the sense
Of Godly sorrow give;
-A strong desiring confidence
To see thy face and live ;-
Faith in the only sacrifice,

That can for sin atone ;,

To cast our hopes, to fix our eyes
On Christ-on Christ alone:-

3 Patience to watch, and wait, and weep,
Though mercy long delay;
Courage our fainting souls to keep,

And trust Thee, though Thou slay :-
Give these, and then thy will be done;
Thus strengthen'd with all might,
We through thy Spirit and thy Son,
Shall pray, and pray aright.
