II.

There is a rich, a full supply,

In the broad cov'nant of his love; Then let my groans ascend on high, To bring the blessings from above

III.

O for a heart that loves to pray,

That loves to converse with the LORD! Fain would I cast my fears away, And live by faith upon his word.

IV.

In God I'll cast my ev'ry care,

To him my ev'ry want make known; When troubles come, in humble pray'r, I'll spread them all before his throne.

V.

I would with gratitude adore

His matchless condescending grace: And charge my heart, "Repine no more, "No more refuse to seek his face."

HYMN CCXXXIII. C. M.
A sight of the Cross.

I.

N evil long I took delight,
Unaw'd by shame or fear,

'Till a new object struck my sight,
And stopp'd my wild career.

B B

II.

I saw one hanging on a tree,
In agonies and blood,

Who fix'd his languid eyes on me,
As near his cross I stood.

III.

Sure never 'till my latest breath,
Can I forget that look:

It seem'd to charge me with his death.
Tho' not a word he spoke.

IV.

My conscience felt, and own'd the guilt,
And plung'd me in despair;

I saw my sins his blood had spilt,
And help'd to nail him there.

y.

Alas! I knew not what I did;
But now my tears are vain;
Where shall my trembling soul be hid?
For I the LORD have slain.

VI.

A second look he gave, which said,
"I freely all forgive;

This blood is for thy ransom paid,
I die, that thou may'st live."

Thus, while his death my sin displays, In all its blackest hue,

(Such is the mystery of grace),

It seals my pardon too.

HYMN CCXVIII.

C. M.

Longing for a sight of God's Proceedings with his People:

1.

FOR a faith to see my GoD,

O With reconciled face,

Fulfilling, as he shakes the rod,
His purposes of grace;

II.

Chastising with a father's care
A lov'd, though stubborn child,
So prone to fall in ev'ry snare,
So soon by sin beguil❜d.

III

Sure such a pleasing sight as this
Would urge my soul to fly,
With rapid wing, to taste the bliss
Of saints above the sky.

IV.

Then all the gloomy doubts and fears,
Which tear my throbbing breast,
Would vanish with those anxious cares,
That now disturb my rest.

V.

No more I'd grieve to bear the cross,
Though low it bent me down;
But smile at danger, pains, and loss,

While faith would seize the crown,

Mercies which do all praise excel;
My JESUS hath done all things well.

VI.

Though many a fi'ry flaming dart
The tempter levels at my heart;
With this I all his rage repel,

My JESUS hath done all things well.

VII.

Soon shall I pass the vale of death,
And in his arms shall lose my breath;
Yet then my happy soul shall tell,
My JESUS hath done all things well.

[ocr errors]

And when to that bright world I rise,
And join the anthems in the skies,
Above the rest, this note shall swell,
My JESUS hath done all things well.

HYMN CCXXXV. C. M.
"The Prince of Peace"

I.

ET saints on earth their anthems raise, Who taste the SAVIOUR's grace; Let saints in heav'n proclaim his praise, And crown him "Prince of Peace."

II.

Praise him who laid his glory by,

For man's apostate race:

Praise him, who stoop'd to bleed and die,
And crown him " Prince of Peace.”

III.

Come rebels, lay your weapons down;
Let war for ever cease;
Immanuel for your sov'reign own,

And crown him "Prince of Peace."

IV.

We soon shall reach the blissful shore,
To view his lovely face;

His name for ever to adore,

And crown him "Prince of Peace."

HYMN CCXXXVI. L. M. Christian Traveller animated by a View of his Eternal Home.

1.

S when the weary trav'ller gains

As The height of some o'er looking hill,

His heart revives, if cross the plains
He eyes his home, though distant still.

II.

While he surveys the much-lov'd spot,
He slights the space that lies between;
His past fatigues are now forgot,
Because his journey's end is seen.

III.

Thus, when the Christian pilgrim views.
By faith, his mansion in the skies,
The sight his fainting strength renews,
And wings his' speed to reach the prize,
