SERVICE-STATION CENSUS BY STATES Stations continue to grow in size but only slightly in number, according to Bureau of Census figures released last year based on a 1963 count. Though the station population-at 211,473-was up only 4,718 from 1958, the average station had increased its income from $69,000 to $84,000 during the five-year period. Equally significant were the figures for salaried stations, which omit the one-man outlet: the average station in 1963 had $99,000 in sales, compared to $84,000 in 1958. |
