MY REVEREND BRETHREN,

It is with much satisfaction that I meet you again, convened, according to ancient rule, in these our solemn assemblies of the Clergy, duly called together from year to year, in their several deaneries, by competent authority.

Beyond the special and primary purpose for which, on these occasions, we are met,-in order to the due exercise of those functions which the Archdeacon, as the "Eye of the Bishop," is bound to discharge, especially in regard to the condition of the sacred fabrics in which we offer to the Most High our holy worship, and of all that more immediately concerns the religious service rendered therein to Him, or to our brethren for His sake;beyond this first and chief object of the "assembling
