one that is born in the land; but no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. 49One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.' 50Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

61And it came to pass the selfsame day that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts. 13 And the

LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: "Sanctify unto Me all the first-born, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast, it is Mine.'

And Moses said unto the people: 'Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place; there shall no leavened bread be eaten. This day ye go forth in the month Abib. And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which He swore unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month. "Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD. "Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee, in all thy borders. And thou shalt tell thy son in that day, saying: It is because of that which the LORD did for me when I came forth out of Egypt. And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thy hand, and for a memorial between

thine eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in thy mouth; for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt. 10Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.

11And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanite, as He swore unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee, that thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the womb; every firstling that is a male, which thou hast coming of a beast, shall be the LORD's. And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break its neck; and all the first-born of man among thy sons shalt thou redeem. 14 And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying: What is this? that thou shalt say unto him: By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage; and it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man, and the first-born of beast; therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the womb, being males; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem. 16And it shall be for a sign upon thy hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes; for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.'

17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said: 'Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt.' 18But God

"And the Egyptians Moses took the bones of Joseph with him; for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying: 'God will surely remember you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.' 20And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. 21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; that they might go by day and by night: 22the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, departed not from before the people.

14 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: "Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon, over against it shall ye encamp by the sea. 3And Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel: They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in. And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he shall follow after them; and I will get Me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD.' And they did so. And it was told the king of Egypt that the people were fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned towards the people, and they said: 'What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?" "And he made ready his chariots, and took his people with him. And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them. And the LORD hardened the

"And they said unto Moses: 'Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? Is not this the word that we spoke unto thee in Egypt, saying: Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.' 13 And Moses said unto the people: 'Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will work for you to-day; for whereas ye have seen the Egyptians to-day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14The LORD will fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.'

15And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Wherefore criest thou unto Me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. 16And lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the sea, and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. 17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them; and I will get Me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

18 And the Egyptians shall know that the LORD overthrew the Egyptians I am the LORD, when I have gotten in the midst of the sea. 28 And the Me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his waters returned, and covered the chariots, and upon his horsemen.' chariots, and the horsemen, even all 19 And the angel of God, who went be- the host of Pharaoh that went in fore the camp of Israel, removed and after them into the sea; there rewent behind them; and the pillar of mained not so much as one of them. cloud removed from before them, and 29But the children of Israel walked stood behind them; 20and it came be- upon dry land in the midst of the tween the camp of Egypt and the sea; and the waters were a wall unto camp of Israel; and there was the them on their right hand, and on their cloud and the darkness here, yet left. 30Thus the LORD saved Israel gave it light by night there; and the that day out of the hand of the Egypone came not near the other all the tians; and Israel saw the Egyptians night. "And Moses stretched out his dead upon the sea-shore. And with the blast of Thy nostrils the waters were piled upThe floods stood upright as a heap; The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea. "The enemy said:

'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil;

My lust shall be satisfied upon them;

I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'

10Thou didst blow with Thy wind, the sea covered them; They sank as lead in the mighty

"Who is like unto Thee, O LORD,

among the mighty?

Who is like unto Thee, glorious in holiness,

Fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12Thou stretchedst out Thy right hand

The earth swallowed them. 13Thou in Thy love hast led the people

that Thou hast redeemed; Thou hast guided them in Thy strength to Thy holy habitation. 14The peoples have heard, they tremble;

Pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. 15Then were the chiefs of Edom affrighted;

The mighty men of Moab, trembling taketh hold upon them; All the inhabitants of Canaan are

melted away. 16Terror and dread falleth upon them; By the greatness of Thine arm they are as still as a stone;

Till Thy people pass over, O LORD,

Till the people pass over that Thou hast gotten.

17Thou bringest them in, and plantest them in the mountain of Thine inheritance,

The place, O LORD, which Thou hast made for Thee to dwell in, The sanctuary, O Lord, which Thy hands have established. 18The LORD shall reign for ever and

19For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea.

20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21And Miriam sang unto them: Sing ye to the LORD, for He is highly exalted:

The horse and his rider hath He thrown into the sea.

22 And Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called "Marah. And the people murmured against Moses, saying: 'What shall we drink?' 25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There He made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He proved them; 26and He said: 'If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt
