BRIDGE ACROSS THE MISSOURI RIVER AT ST.
CHARLES, MO.

Mr. SHEPPARD, from the Committee on Commerce, submitted the

following

REPORT

[To accompany S. 1144]

The Committee on Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (S. 1144) to further extend the time for constructing a bridge across the Missouri River at or near Saint Charles, Mo., having considered the same, report favorably thereon, and recommend that the bill do pass without amendment.

The bill has the approval of the Departments of War and Agriculture, as will appear by the annexed communications.

So far as the interests committed to this Department are concerned, I know of no objection to the favorable consideration of the accompanying bill, S. 1144, Seventy-fourth Congress, first session, to further extend the time for constructing a bridge across the Missouri River at or near St. Charles, Mo.

DEAR SENATOR: Receipt is acknowledged of your letter of January 19, transmitting a copy of a bill (S. 1144), with request that the committee be furnished with such suggestions touching its merits and the propriety of its passage as the Department might deem appropriate.

This bill would extend the time for completing the construction of a bridge across the Missouri River at or near St. Charles, Mo., by the Wabash Railway Co. until February 7, 1937. The original act authorizing the construction of the bridge was approved by Congress February 7, 1930, and the time for its completion has heretofore been extended to February 7, 1935.

The bill is without objection so far as this Department is concerned.

The Committee on Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (S. 1308) to extend the times for commencing and completing the construction of a bridge across the Ohio River at or near Cairo, Ill., having considered the same, report favorably thereon, and recommend that the bill do pass without amendment.

The bill has the approval of the Departments of War and Agriculture, as will appear by the annexed communications.

DEAR SENATOR: Receipt is acknowledged of your letter of January 24, trans mitting a copy of a bill (S. 1308) with request that the committee be furnished with such suggestions touching its merits and the propriety of its passage as the Department might deem appropriate.

This bill would extend for 1 and 3 years, respectively, from April 13, 1935, the times for commencing and completing the construction of the bridge across the

Ohio River at or near Cairc 111., authorized to be built by the Cairo Bridge Commission by act of Congress approved April 13, 1934 (48 Stat. 577).

It is understood that the Cairo Bridge Commission has been endeavoring to arrange for financing the construction of the bridge through the Public Works Administration. The proposed extension of times for commencing and completing its construction, therefore, is without objection.

The Committee on Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 2030) authorizing the States of Washington and Idaho to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge across the Snake River between Clarkston, Wash., and Lewiston, Idaho, having considered the same, report favorably thereon, and recommend that the bill do pass without amendment.

The bill has the approval of the Departments of War and Agriculture, as will appear by the annexed communications.

This bill would authorize the States of Washington and Idaho to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge and approaches thereto across the Snake River between Clarkston, Wash., and Lewiston, Idaho. Favorable action on the bill is recommended.
