to Doctrine, and hence by Jews all those who fhall belong to the Lord's Church: That fuch are meant by Jews in the Word, may be feen in the DOCTRINE CONCERNING THE SACRED SCRIP TURE, n. 51. When they are asked whether they believe that they alfo fhall come into the Land of Canaan, they reply, that they will then descend into it: When they are told that the Land of Canaan is not large enough to contain them all, they fay, that it will then be enlarged. When it is faid, that they know not where Bethlehem is fituated, or who is the Root of David, they return for Answer, that it is known to the Meffiah who is to come. When it is objected, How can the Meffiah the Son of Jehovah dwell with fuch a wicked People? they reply, that they are not wicked. When it is urged, that Mofes has given a Defcription of them in his Song, Deut. xxxii, and calls them the very worst of Nations, they answer, that Mofes was angry because of his Departure: But when it is faid that Mofes wrote it by the Command of Jehovah, they are then filent, and go away to confult about the Matter. When it is remarked, that they had their Rife from a Canaanite, and from the Whoredom of Judah with his Daughter in Law, Gen. xxxviii, they are angry, faying, it is enough for them that they are the Offspring of Abraham. When they are told, that there is within the Word a fpiritual Senfe, which treateth K folely

folely of Christ, they answer, that it is not fo, but that within the Word there is Nothing but Gold; with many more Things to the fame Purpose.

Of

Of the Quakers in the Spiritual World.

83.

HERE are enthusiastic Spirits fepa

rate from all others, fo befotted and devoid of Understanding, as to imagine themfelves to be the Holy Spirit. Thefe Spirits, when Quakerifm firft commenced, were drawn as it were out of the Woods on every Side where they had wandered, and obfeffed many, infufing a Perfuafion that they were moved by the Holy Spirit; and as they fenfibly perceived the Influx, their Religion fo entirely occupied them, that they conceited themselves more enlightened and holy than the reft of Mankind; for which Reason they could not be brought to give up their religious Notions. They who have confirmed themselves therein, come into a like State of Enthusiasm after Death, are feparated from the reft, and conveyed into Woods to their like, where at a Distance they appear like wild Swine. But fuch as have not confirmed themselves therein, are sent away into a Place like a Defert, which is in the furthest Parts of the fouthern Quarter, where they have Caves for their Places of Worship.

84. When the above enthusiastic Spirits were removed from them, the Trembling of their Body, which was occafioned by thofe Spirits, ceased; and

they now feel a Motion on the left Side. It was discovered, that from their first Rise they have fucceffively gone, on from bad to worse, and at length into Enormities, by Command of their Holy Spirit, which they divulge to no one. I have spoken with the Founder* of their Religion, and alfo with Penn, who both difclaimed having any Concern in fuch Things. But they who have acted in the Manner alluded to, are let down after Death into a dark Place, where they fit in Corners, appearing like the Dregs of Oil.

85. Inasmuch as they have rejected the two Sacraments of Baptifm and the Holy Supper, and yet read the Word, and preach the Lord, and fpeak from the Obfeffion of enthusiastic Spirits, and thus commix the holy Things of the Word with profaned Truths; therefore no Society is formed of them in the Spiritual World, but after being diffociated from each other, and wandering here and there, they are difperfed, and at laft collected in the above-mentioned Defert.

The Founder of Quakerifm was GEORGE Fox.

Of the Moravians in the Spiritual

World.

Have had much Converfation with the

Moravians, who are alfo called Heerenhuters. They appeared at firft in a Valley not far from the Jews; but after they were explored and detected, they were conveyed to uninhabited Places. On fearching into their Character, it was found, that they were very crafty in conciliating Favour, faying that they were the Remains of the Apoftolic Church, and that therefore they falute each other as Brethren, and · call by the Title of Mothers those who receive their interior Myfteries. It was alfo difcovered, that above all others they teach Faith; and they fay, that they love the Lord because he suffered the Death of the Crofs, calling him the Lamb, and the Throne of Grace; with other Things of a like Nature, whereby they induce a Persuasion, that the true Chriftian Church is among them. They who are feduced by their flattering Speeches, and prevailed upon to join them, are examined by them whether they be fuch, that they may venture to disclose their Mysteries to them; if they are not, they conceal them; but if they can, they reveal them; and then they admonish,
