PREFACE

We all need comfort in these sad, dark days. The world is full of suffering. Few homes are not darkened by the dread wings of the Angel of Death. Bright young lives that were the joy of loving parents and sisters, have made the great sacrifice on the battlefields of France and Flanders, Gallipoli and Mesopotamia. Brilliant careers that were full of promise have been closed. We all need comfortcomfort from God Who is the only source of all real and true comfort, and who can alone cheer the anxious and soothe the agony of despair. Jesus has said, "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." To comfort means really to strengthen and invigorate. If sorrow be sanctified by resignation to God's will and patient waiting upon Him, it brings a blessing to the wounded heart and a strength to bear its weight of woe.
