saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them as a man spareth his own son chat serveth him. Then shall ye return, and discern between he righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God ind him that serveth him not. (Mal. iii. 16.) Surely then, it will be said in that day, that there is a reward for the righteous, and the Lord will sever the wicked from the righteous, and he will divide them as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats, or the wolves, or from any thing that would hurt them. And in another place the wicked are compared to tares, or as weeds among wheat. As therefore the tares are gathered, and burned in the fire: so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father; who hath ears to hear let him hear. (Matt. xiii. 40-Dan. xii. 3.) And to you, my beloved brethren, who suffer trials, persecutions, and tribulations, rest with us, saith St. Paul, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe. (2 Thess. i. 7.) And again, in another place, St. Peter saith, The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in the which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also, and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. (2 Pet. iii. 10-1 Thess. v. 2.) And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? (1 Pet. iv. 18.) And again, it appears that this will be a great day of God's wrath to the wicked; But surely it will be a great day of his grace to the righteous. And I beheld, when he had opened the sixth seal, saith St. John, and lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood. And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as
the fig-tree casteth her untimely or green figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scrowl, when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bond-man, and every free-man hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth upon the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of his wrath is come: and who shall be able to stand? (Rev. vi.) And see my readers there are many days of trouble, and great days of the Lord spoken of in Scriptures, as in (Jer. xxx. 7.Joel ii. 31.-Mal. iv.-Rev. xvi. 10.-Jude v. 6.-Isaiah ii. 19.-Hosea x. 8.-Luke xxiii. 30.) And it is likely that some of these Scriptures have a reference to this great day of God's wrath. (Rev. vi. 17.) This great day therefore will surely come as a thief in the night; be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap, for he that soweth to his flesh, shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that soweth to the spirit, shall of the spirit reap life everlasting. (Gal. vi. 7.) Know ye not therefore, that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind. Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Cor. vi. 9.) But he that overcometh saith the Holy One, shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be my son, but the fearful and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. (Rev. xxi. 7.) Therefore seeing that these things are so, take heed to yourself my readers, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares, for as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. (Luke xxi. 34.) Therefore let us by the help of God, make the best of our time and talents whilst it is day, for to-morrow may be too late, for that great day is coming, and we know not how soon, when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he set upon the throne of his glory, and before him shall be gathered all na
tions, and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats, and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left, then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Therefore we see that the Lord will pronounce such blessed, and he will declare that there works do follow with them, but such will not boast of their good works, but they will ascribe their righteousness to the blood of the Lamb and their merciful and righteous soul will rejoice against judgment, and they will be filled with holy joy, and everlasting peace, then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels; and such as these will be pronounced cursed, because their evil works will condemn them; for it appears that they had no godlike love, charity, nor mercy, but they confess it not, therefore they are judged without mercy, and these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into life eternal. (see Matt. xxv.) And again, St. John the Divine bears witness of these things, and behold it is upon record where he saith; And I saw a great white throne, and him that set on it from whose face the earth and the heavens fled away, and there was found no place for them and I saw the dead small and great stand before God, and the Books were opened, and another Book was opened, which is the Book of life, and the dead where judged out of those things which were written in the Books according to their works, and the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them, and they were judged every man according to their works, and death and hell were cast into the lake of fire, this is the second death; and whosoever was not found written in the Book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Rev. xx. 11.) Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that, shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. (Luke. xxi. 36.) Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. (Matt. xxiv. 44.) He which testifieth these things, saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so come Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Blessed is the man that readeth these Books, and pondereth upon them in his heart, whose life, will, ways, and actions doth correspond with those blest characters mentioned in these Books, for surely he shall receive the cup of salvation, and shall enter into the joys of his Lord.
And now my dear children, may God Almighty bless you, and give you grace so as to remember and consider upon these Books at this time, and when I am dead and gone, and that you may get much profit thereby, for I trust that the sum and substance of it all is of love. And that I have wrote it all by God's divine assistance alone, and that by my own hand, Edward Crook, and if there is in these my Books anything worthy of praise, give God the glory.
But as for me, I will lay me down at his feet, as an unworthy servant until my change come, and then I hope and trust that he will raise me up into his own likeness, and there to behold my loving Saviour and his Saints, in glory everlasting. Amen.
Please to observe, that it is a critical thing to print every word exactly right in the first Edition of a Book; therefore it may be that you may find a word mis-printed, as you may see in the Book of Election, Page 217, where it is printed "loveth" his Election; but in the Author's Copy it is "loseth" his Election; therefore I would advise my Subscribers to read such words as are mis-printed according as sense requires.
