2. Every eye shall now behold Him
Robed in dreadful majesty;

They who set at naught and sold Him,
Pierced and nailed Him to the tree,
Deeply wailing,

Shall the true Messiah see.

3. Those dear tokens of His Passion
Still His dazzling Body bears;
Cause of endless exultation

To His ransomed worshippers;
With what rapture

Gaze we on those glorious scars.
4. Yea, Amen, let all adore Thee,
High on Thine eternal throne;
SAVIOUR, take the power and glory;
Claim the kingdoms for Thine own:
O come quickly!

Alleluia !

Amen.

40.

"He hath sent Me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives."

1.

HARK the glad sound! the SAVIOUR comes,

SAVIOUR promised long:

Let every heart prepare a throne,

And every voice a song.

2. He comes, the prisoners to release
In Satan's bondage held;

The gates of brass before Him burst,
The iron fetters yield.

ADVENT.

3. He comes, the broken hearts to bind,
The bleeding souls to cure,

And with the treasures of His grace
To bless the humble poor.

4. Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace,
Thine Advent shall proclaim;
And heaven's eternal arches ring
With Thy beloved Name.

41.

EVENING.

Amen.

"I sleep, but my heart waketh."

WHI

HEN shades of night around us close,
And weary limbs in sleep repose,

The faithful soul awake may be,

And longing sigh, O LORD, to Thee.

2. Thou true Desire of nations hear;
Thou WORD OF GOD, Thou SAVIOUR dear;
In pity heed our humble cries,
And bid at length the fallen rise.

3. O come, REDEEMER, come and free
Thine own from guilt and misery;
The gates of heaven again unfold,
Which Adam's sin had closed of old.
4. All praise, Eternal SoN, to Thee
Whose Advent doth Thy people free;
Whom with the FATHER we adore
And HOLY GHOST for evermore.

Amen.

The hymn, Day of wrath, O Day of mourning, may also be

used at this Season.

"Unto you is born this day in the city of David a SAVIOUR which is CHRIST the LORD."

1.

WHILE shepherds watched their flocks

All seated on the ground, [by night,

The angel of the LORD came down,

And glory shone around.

2. "Fear not," said he; for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled mind;
"Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind.

3.

Το you, in David's town, this day
Is born of David's line

A SAVIOUR, Who is CHRIST the LORD;
And this shall be the sign:

4. "The heavenly Babe you there shall find
. To human view displayed,

5.

All meanly wrapped in swathing bands,
And in a manger laid."

Thus spake the seraph; and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng

Of angels praising God, who thus

Addressed their joyful song:
