2. Grant us Thy peace upon our homeward way; With Thee began, with Thee shall end the day; Guard Thou the lips from sin, the hearts from shame,

3.

That in this house have called upon Thy Name.

Grant us Thy peace, LORD, thro' the coming night, Turn Thou for us its darkness into light;

From harm and danger keep Thy children free, For dark and light are both alike to Thee.

4. Grant us Thy peace throughout our earthly life, Our balm in sorrow, and our stay in strife; Then, when Thy voice shall bid our conflict cease, Call us, O LORD, to Thine eternal peace.

Amen.

"O GOD, Thou art my God."

ND now the wants are told, that brought
Thy children to Thy knee;

Here lingering still, we ask for naught,
But simply worship Thee.

2. The hope of heaven's eternal days:
Absorbs not all the heart

That gives Thee glory, love, and praise,
For being what Thou art.

3. For Thou art God, the One, the Same,
O'er all things high and bright;

And round us, when we speak Thy Name,
There spreads a heaven of light.

4. O wondrous peace, in thought to dwell' On excellence divine;

To know that naught in man can tell
How fair Thy beauties shine.

5. O Thou, above all blessing blest,
O'er thanks exalted far,
Thy very greatness is a rest

To weaklings as we are;

6. For when we feel the praise of Thee
A task beyond our powers,
We say, "A perfect God is He,
And He is fully ours."

7. All glory to the FATHER be,
All glory to the SON,

All glory, HOLY GHOST, to Thee,

While endless ages run.

Sunday.

Amen.

"I was in the SPIRIT on the LORD's day."

HIS is the day of light:
Let there be light to-day;

O Day-spring, rise upon our night,
And chase its gloom away.

2. This is the day of rest:
Our failing strength renew;
On weary brain and troubled breast
Shed Thou Thy freshening dew.

3.

This is the day of peace:

Thy peace our spirits fill;

Bid Thou the blasts of discord cease,

The waves of strife be still.

4. This is the day of

prayer:

Let earth to heaven draw near;
Lift up our hearts to seek Thee there;
Come down to meet us here.

5. This is the first of days:

Send forth Thy quickening Breath,
And wake dead souls to love and praise,
O Vanquisher of death!

282.

Amen.

together."

DAY of rest and gladness,
O day of joy and light,
O balm of care
re and sadness,
Most beautiful, most bright;
On thee the high and lowly

Before th' eternal Throne
Sing Holy, Holy, Holy,

To the great THREE IN ONE.

2. On thee, at the creation,
The light first had its birth;
On thee for our salvation

CHRIST rose from depths of earth;
On thee our LORD victorious
The SPIRIT sent from heaven;
And thus on thée most glorious
A triple light was given.

3. Thou art a cooling fountain
In life's dry dreary sand;
From thee, like Pisgah's mountain,
We view our promised land;

A day of sweet, refection,

A day of holy love,

A day of resurrection

From earth to things above.

4. To-day on weary nations

The heavenly Manna falls,
To holy convocations

The silver trumpet calls,
Where Gospel-light is glowing
With pure and radiant beams,
And living water flowing

With soul-refreshing streams.

5. New graces ever gaining

From this our day of rest,
We reach the Rest remaining
To spirits of the blest;

TO HOLY GHOST be praises,
TO FATHER, and to Son;
The Church her voice upraises
To Thee, blest THREE IN ONE.

283.

St. Stephen's Day.

Amen.

"He, being full of the HOLY GHOST, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of GoD, and JESUS standing on the right hand of God."

1. YESTERDAY, with exultation,
Joined the world in celebration
Of her promised SAVIOUR's birth;
Yesterday the angel-nation.
Poured the strains of jubilation

O'er the Monarch born on earth;
2. But to-day o'er death victorious,
By his faith and actions glorious,
By his miracles renowned,
See the Deacon triumph gaining,
'Midst the faithless faith sustaining,
First of holy martyrs found.

3. Onward, champion, falter never,
Sure of sure reward for ever,
Holy Stephen, persevere;
Perjured witnesses confounding,
Satan's synagogue astounding

By thy doctrine true and clear.
