HYMNS FOR MISSION CHURCHES AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES EDITED BY THE COMPILERS. OF "Hymns Ancient and Modern." LONDON: PRINTED FOR THE PROPRIETORS BY WILLIAM CLOWES AND SONS, LIMITED, STAMFORD STREET AND CHARING CROSS. PUBLISHING OFFICE, 13, CHARING CROSS, 3.W. PROCESSIONAL 66, 74, 78, 84, 88, 93, 96, 97, 102, 103, The Hymns which are not specified in the above list PREFACE. THE Compilers of "Hymns Ancient and Modern" put forth this collection of "Hymns for Mission Churches and Children's Services" in a good type and at a small cost, in compliance with the request of many of the clergy, who represented to them the need of such a publication. It is not intended for temporary missions, but, as its title implies, for the use of congregations in Mission Churches and Rooms, for Cottage Lectures, Classes and Guilds, and for Children's Services. The Compilers have to express their gratitude for very valuable assistance to the Rev. S. J. Stone, Vicar of S. Paul's, Haggerston; to the Rev. J. S. Pollock; to the Rev. T. B. Pollock, for hymns written by him for this book; and to the Rev. W. Plows, Vicar of Haddenham, from whom the suggestion of such a book originated. Their thanks are also due to the Rev. J. Ellerton for permission to use Hymn No. 128; to the Rev. J. H. Lester for the use of Hymn 32; and to the Rev. L. Tuttiett for the use of Hymn 42. If this Book is found really to meet the want which it is intended to supply, a separate Tune Book for it will be issued. Meanwhile, the references in the margin to A & M and HMS (Hymns for Mission Services) will indicate where the tunes for these Hymns are to be found. HYMNS FOR MISSION CHURCHES AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES. 1 A & M 27 A BIDE with me; fast falls the eventide; When other helpers fail, and comforts flee, Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; O Thou Who changest not, abide with me. I need Thy presence every passing hour; I fear no foe with Thee at hand to bless; I triumph still, if Thou abide with me. Hold Thou Thy Cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies; Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O LORD, abide with me. Amen. |
