man neglect this happy opportunity of doing honour to God and his Saviour, and unfpeakable good to himself and his brethren, purely because he cannot make fuch a fhew with his money as other men.. Let him give chearfully what he is able, and he need not fear but that our Saviour, who fo much commended the widow's charity in her mite, will likewise accept and approve his? Or if he has nothing else to offer to God, yet let him offer him a penitent, faithful and charitable heart; and this he will find dear and precious in his fight.

And thus I have anfwer'd, I hope, fully and clearly, all thofe objections which men ordinarily make against communicating; at least all fuch as occur to my mind at prefent, If there be any others that have escaped me, I fhall be very thankful to those who will be fo kind as to inform me of them, and most readily give them their due weight and confideration,

For Repentance.

Moft holy Lord God, who art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity? and has more especially required, that those who compass thine altar, fhould wash their hands in innocency: grant me, I befeech thee, unfeigned repentance for my paft fins, a moft deep and hearty forrow for them, and most firm and stedfaft purposes and resolutions to forfake them; and do thou, by thy grace, so affist and strengthen these my refolutions, that they may become effectual, for the bringing forth fruit unto holiness, so that in the end I may have everlasting life. Thou only, O Lord, art able to work in me both to will and to do, according as I ought. Cleanfe me therefore, I most humbly pray thee, from all filthinefs, both of flesh and fpirit,

spirit, and enable me fo to perfect holiness in thy fear, that I may be a fit guest for thy Son's table, and likewise meet to be partaker of that inheritance of the faints in light, which thou, in thine infinite mercy, has promis'd to all fuch as faithfully ferve and please thee, through thy dear Son, and our alone Saviour and Redeemer Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

O

Of Faith,

Moft gracious and ever merciful Lord, who has promised to all them that believe in thy Son Jefus, everlasting life, and has instituted and ordained holy mysteries, as pledges and feals of thefe thy promises: give me, I most earnestly beg of thee, fuch a fure and lively faith in him, as may entitle me to become a worthy receiver of these pledges, and heir of these promises. I believe, O Lord, help thou my unbelief; I believe that the bleffed Jefus laid down his life for me, and acknowledge with all poffible thankfulness, his inexpreffible kindness in so doing; I believe that he gave himself for me and all mankind, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto him

felf a peculiar people, zealous of good works; therefore will I endeavour to manifest my faith by my works. I believe that there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby they must be saved, but the name of the Lord Jefus; therefore in his name only I implore thy mercy, increase of faith here, and of glory hereafter. Amen.

For Charity.

Lord, who haft taught us that all our doings without charity are nothing worth; fend thy Holy Ghost, and pour into my heart that moft excellent gift of charity, the very bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whofoever liveth is counted dead before thee. More efpecially now, when I am going to commemorate the unfpeakable love of my bleffed Saviour in dying for me, let me not be deftitute of love towards my brethren, O let my readiness to forgive others their trefpaffes, fit me for thy forgiveness of mine; let me not be an enemy to any man, left I be thy enemy too; but give me that charity, which co

vereth a multitude of fins, that charity, by which all men may know me to be Chrift's difciple, which fhall difpofe me to be of a meek, patient, long fuffering, forgiving temper, like him, and to do good to all men, as he did; that charity, which fhall never fail, but fhall go along with us into, and make us fit inhabitants for that city of love, the new Jerufalem. Grant this, O merciful Father, for the fake of thy Son Christ Jefus, through whose love alone we are encouraged to present these our requests to thee. Amen.

A prayer to be faid in the morning before we communicate, after our ufual prayers.

Moft gracious and ever merciful Lord God, who art always wont to give more than we either defire or deserve; accept, I beseech thee, my moft humble and hearty thanks for thy great mercy in bringing me to the light of this day, and thereby giving me an opportunity of meeting my dear Reedeemer at his holy table; of teftifying my love and grati
