The Church is the Body of Christ, and into Christ God will gather all things. The work of the Church is to embody Christ's Christianity in men; and, however poor may be the life of most of us, certainly Christ's Christianity is the most sublime, both as ideal and actual, ever presented to the mind and heart of man. There has been a mighty growth in the making known of God's nature and will; a growth extending from Creation to Redemption; and now ever enlarging until, the whole world being glorified, a further and surpassing view will be given in which we shall see God-all in all (1 Cor. xv. 28). God's way is in the sanctuary; there, and there only, can we as a nation, properly, statedly, publicly, worship Him; and there He reveals Himself to His people (Ex. xxv. 22; Eph. i. 23). As time rolls on, as knowledge is increased and brighter light shines on the divine purposes and dealings, we find that God never withdraws any truth once revealed, and never adds new truth without renewing the force of the old. If we study the record of creation, how oceans and lands came successively into view as parts of our beautiful world, the glorious vision of which was given to Moses (Gen. i. ii.) ; or if we turn our eyes to the new heavens and the new earth made visible in the splendid imagery of the apostle (Rev. xxi. 1-4); whether |
