This is the blessed history of all who are in heaven or on the right way to it,“ By grace are ye saved through faith ; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not of works lest any man should

boast."*

Now, then, set your hearts to seek the Lord your God. You cannot be too soon released from the thraldom of the devil, and secured from the damnation of hell. None is so likely to die in his iniquities as the presumptuous sinner. You will not always have grace to slight or a Saviour to refuse. Repent now, therefore, and believe the Gospel, and you shall be monuments of the power and grace of him whose name is Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins.

Finally, Let not those who have escaped the grosser pollutions of the world imagine that they need no repentance. Consider, that, however blameless you may be as to your dealings with men, there is a God with whom you have to do, and to whom you owe affections and duties to which you are utter strangers. You may not profane his name, you may attend on his public worship, but you feel not that supreme love which he claims, and his place in the heart you give to another. All that Jesus Christ hath done for man hath never awakened in you one spark of holy gratitude-hath never led you to make one sacrifice for his name and cause. You are indifferent to the beauties of his example, enemies to the glories of his cross, and despisers of the riches of his grace. You are puffed up with a vain confidence, which dishonours him and will ruin you. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all those also who forget God. Come then to the cross as guilty sinners ; trust in its blood for acceptance and safety, and receive its spirit for holiness and peace.

If ever you are saved it must be through grace, and to the praise of its glory.
