Here the faints will fit down with CHRIST at his table, and drink new wine with him in his Father's kingdom: here they will pluck and eat the fruit of the tree of life, which flands in the midft of the Paradite of GoD: here they will drink of the river of divine pleasure, that pure water of life, proceeding out of the throne of GoD and the LAMB, and fuch glory as eye hath not feen, ear heard, neither bath it entered into the heart of man to conceive. For there will be the vifion of GoD: now we walk by Faith, then by fight; we fall fee his face in righteoufnels, and behold him even as he is, 1 John iii. 2, we fhall have a clear and unclouded apprehenfion of his glory: we shall fes that God who loved us with an everlasting love; who chose and bleffed us with all spiritual bleffings in his Son; who made a covenant with him, and with us in him, well ordered in all things and fure; we fhall fee the Son of God himself, the mediator between God and man; who affumed our nature, fuffered and died in our room and ftead; who rofe again, afcended to heaven, and is now fet down at the right hand of GOD; we shall fee the glory of his divine perfon, and his glory as mediator, of which we know but little now; but then we fhall have a perfect knowledge of it: we shall fee the bleffed fpirit who convinced us of fin, righteoufnefs and judgement, and was our quickner, and comforter; who led us into truth, and took of the things of CHRIST, and fhewed them to us; in fhort, who began, carried on, and perfected the work of grace in our fouls. 2dly. There we shall fee the holy angels, thofe thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers, made by CHRIST and fubject to him; thofe fons of GoD who fang together when the foundation of the earth was laid; who made fuch a confpicuous appearance when from Mount Sinai went forth a fiery law; who defcending at CHRIST's incarnation, and fung glory in the higheft, on earth peace, good will towards men; who at his afcenfion attended him, and who will attend him when he fhall come to judge the world in righteousness: we shall see thefe bowing their heads while they adore the divine being, and celebrate the perfections of his nature. With these we shall join, and heaven's high domes will reverberate the founds, with which our joyful hearts adore him. |
