Looking for that bleffed HOPE, and the GLORIOUS Appearing of the great GoD, and our SAVIOUR Jefus Chrift: 14. When the Chief Priests therefore and Officers faw him, they CRIED out, faying, CRUCIFY him, CRUCIFY him. Pilate faith unto them, Take ye him, and CRUCIFY him, for I find no FAULT in him. The Jerus answered him, We have a LAW, and by our Law he ought to DIE, because he made himself the Son of GOD. When Pilate therefore heard that SAYING, he was the more AFRAID : and went again into the Judgment - Hall, and faith unto Jefus, WHENCE art thou? But Jefus gave him no ANSWER. Then faith Pilate unto him, Speakeft thou not unto me? Knoweft thou not that I have Power to CRUCIFY thee, and have PoWER to release thee? Fefus answered, Thou couldst have no PoWER at all against me, except it were given thee from ABOVE : Therefore he that delivered me unto thee, hath the greater SIN. And from thenceforth Pilate fought to RELEASE him but the Jews cried out, faying, If thou let this Man go, thou art not Cefar's Friend: Whofoever maketh himfelf a King, fpeaketh against Cefar. When Pilate therefore heard that Saying, he brought Jefus forth, and fat down in the Judgment-feat, in a Place that is called the PAVEMENT, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. And it was the Preparation of the Paffover, and about the fixth Hour: And he faith unto the Jews, Behold your King. But they cried out, Away with him, AWAY with him, CRUCIFY him, Pilate faith unto them, Shall I crucify your : World. Chap. iii. 16. Hereby perceive we the Love of God, because he LAID DOWN his Life for us: And we ought to LAY DOWN Our Lives for the Brethren. Chap. iv. 10. [L.] And as they led him away, [M] they found a Man, [Mr.] one Simon, a Cyrenean, who paffed by, coming out of the Country, the Father of Alexander and Rufus: [L.] and they laid hold on Simon the Cyrenean, [M.] him they compelled, [L] and on him they laid the CROSS, that he might bear it after fefus. And there followed him a great Company of People, and of Women, which alfo bewailed and LAMENTED him. But Jefus turning unto them, faid, Daughters of Ferufalem, WEEP not for me, but WEEP for your felves, and for your Children; for behold, the Days are coming, in the which they fhall fay, Bleffed are the Barren, and the Wombs that never bare, and the Paps which never gave fuck. Then fhall they begin to fay to the MOUNTAINS, FALL on us; and to the Hills, COVER us. For if they do thefe Things in a green TREE, what fhall be done in the DRY? And there were alfo two other Malefactors, led with him to be put to Death. CHRIST is Crucified. Wine mingled with Myrrh is given him to drink. [M]AND when they were come to a Place called Golgotha, [Mr.] which is, being 'interpreted, the Place of a Skull, they gave him to drink Wine mingled with Myrrh; [M.] Vinegar mingled with Gall: [Mr.] But he received it not: for [M] when he had tafted thereof, he would not drink. [L.] And when they were come to the Place which is called Calvary, there they CRUCIFIED him, [F] and two other [Z] Malefactors [7] with him, [L] one on the right Hand, and the other on the left, [7] and Fefus in the midft. [7] Then said the Chief Priests of the Jews to Pilate, write not, The King of the Jews, but that he faid, I am the King of the Jews. Filate anfwered, What I have written, I have written.
