A Military History of Australia

Voorkant
Cambridge University Press, 28 jun 1999 - 300 pagina's
This book represents a new, expanded and substantially updated edition of one of the most acclaimed overviews of Australian military history available. As well as providing a detailed chronological narrative of the wars in which Australia has been involved, it discusses the evolution of defence policy in peace and war, and the impact of war and military service on civilian society. It maps the development of the Australian armed forces as institutions and the relationship of military policy to government. It covers the major theatres of war in which Australia has engaged - from Gallipoli to the Gulf War. The author also examines armed conflict that has taken place on Australian soil between indigenous Australians and European settlers. In addition, the book considers how national security and defence policy is being shaped at the end of the twentieth century in a rapidly changing world.
