The ORDER for the

BURIAL of the DEAD.

Here is to be noted, that the Office enfuing is not to be used for any that die unbaptized, or excommunicate, or have laid violent hands upon themselves.

The Priest and Clerks meeting the Corps at the entrance of the Churchyard; and going before it either into the Church, or towards the grave, fhall jay, or fing.

AM the refurreétion and the life, faith the Lord: he that believeth in me, though he were dad, yet fhall he live; And whofoever liveth, and believeth in me, thall never die. S. John 11. 25, 26.

liveth, and that he thall ftand at the latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my fleth thail I fee God: whom I thall fee for myfelf, and mine eyes, thall behold, and not another. yob 19. 25, 26, 27.

After they are come into the Church fhall be read one or both of the Pfalms following.

Lixi, cuftodiam PSAL. 39. SAID, I will take heed to my ways that I offend not in my tongue.

i will keep my mouth as it were with a bridle while the ungodly is in my fight.

I held my tongue and fpake nothing: I kept filence, yea, even from good words; but it was pain and grief to me.

My heart was hot within me, and while I was thus mufing the fire kindled and at the laft I fpake with my tongue;

Lord, let me know my end, and the number of my days:

that I may be certified how long I have to live.

Behold, thou haft made my days as it were a fpan long: and mine age is even as nothing in refpect of thee, and verily every man living is altogether vanity..

For man walketh in a vain fhadow, and difquicteth himself. in vain he heapeth up riches, and cannot tell who thall gather them.

And now, Lord, what is my hope: truly my hope is even in thee.

Deliver me from all mine of fences: and make me not a re buke unto the foolith.

I beca ne dumb, and openc... not my mouth: for it was thy doing."

Take thy plague away from me: I am even confumed by means of thy heavy hand.

When thou with rebukes doft chailen man for fin, thou makeft his beauty to confume away, like as it were a moth fret ing a garment: every man therefore is but vanity.

Hear my prayer, O Lord, and with thine ears confider my calling: hold not thy peace at my tears.

For I am a ftranger with thee, and a fojourner. as all my fathers

night.

As foon as thou fcattereft them, they are even as a fleep: and fade away fuddenly like the grafs.

In the morning it is green, and groweth up: but in the evening it is cut down, dried up, and withered.

For we confume away in thy difpleafure: and are afraid at thy wrathful indignation.

Thou haft fet our mifdeeds before thee: and our fecret fins in the light of thy countenance. For when thou art angry, all our days are gone: we bring our years to an end as it were a tale that is told.

The days of our age are threefcore years and ten; and though men be fo ftrong, that they come to fourfcore years: yet is their firength then but labour and forrow; fo foon paffeth it away, and we are gone.

But who regardeth the power of thy wrath: for even there after as a man feareth, fo is thy displeasure.

So teach us to number our days: that we may apply our hearts unto wifdom.

Turn thee again, O Lord, at the laft: and be gracious unto

and their children thy glory.

And the glorious Majefty of the

Lord our God be upon us: prof

per thou the work of our hands upon us. O profper thou our handy work.

Glory be to the Father, &c. As it was in the beginning,c. Then fhall follow the Leffen taken out of the fifteenth Chapter of the former Epile of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.

dead, and become the firftfruits of them that flept. For fince by man came death, by man came alfo the refurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even fo in Chrift thall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Chrift the firftfruits; afterward they that are Chrift's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he thall have put down all rule, and all authority and power: For he muft reign till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The laft enemy that shall be destroyed is death: for he hath put all things under his feet. But when he faith all things are put under him, it is manifeft that he is excep.ed which did put all things u der him. And when all thing thall be fubdued unto him, then thall the fon alfo himfelf be fubject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. Elfe what thail they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rife not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead? and why fland we in jeopardy every hour? 1 proteft by your rejoicing, which I have in Chrift Jefus our Lord, I die daily. It after the manner of men, I have fought with beatts at Ephefus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rife not? Let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die. Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. Awake to righteoufnefs, and fin not; for foine have

not the knowledge of God: I fpeak this to your thame. But fome man will fay. How are the dead ra'fed up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou foweft is not quickened, except it die. And that which thou foweft, thou foweft not that body that thall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat or of fome other grain. But God giveth it a body as it hath pleafed him, and to every feed his own body. All fleth is not the fame fleth: but there is one kind of flesh of men, an other flesh of beafts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are alfo celeftial bodies, and bodies terreftrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terreftrial is another. There is one glory of the fun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the ftars: for one ftar differeth from another ftar in glory. So alfo is the refurrection of the dead. It is fown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption: it is fown in dishonour, it is raised in glory:

it is fown in weakness, it is raifed in power: it is fown a na. tural body, it is raifed a fpiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a fpiritual body. And to it is written, The first man Adam was made a living foul, the laft Adam was made a quickening fpirit. Howbeit that was not firft which is fpiritual, but that which is natural; and af.crward that which is fpiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the fecond man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, fuch are they that are earthy; and as is the heavenly, fuch are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we thall alfo bear the image of the heavenly. Now this, ifay, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God: neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I thew you a myftery; We shall not all fleep, but we thall all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of

an eye, at the laft trump;
(for
the trumpet thall found, and the
dead thall be railed incorrupible,
and we fhall be changed.) For this
corruptible muft put on incor-
ruption, and this mortal must put
on immortality. So when this
corruptible thall have put on in-
corruption, and this mortal shall
have put on immortality, then
thall be brought to pafs the fay
ing that is written, Death is fwal-
lowed up in victory. O death,
where is thy fting? Ograve.where
is thy victory? The fting of death
is fin, and the ftrength of fin isthe
law. But thanks be to God, which
giveth us the victory through our
Lord Jefus Chrift. Therefore, my
beloved brethren, be ye ftedfaft,
unmoveable, always abounding
in the work of the Lord. foral-
much as ye know that your la-
bour is not in vain in the Lord.

When they come to the grave, while the corps is made ready to be laid into the earth, the Priest Shall fay, or the Priest and Clerks fhall fing:

MAN that is born of a wo

man hath but a fhort time to live, and is full of mifery. He cometh up, and is cut down like a flower: he fleeth as it were a thadow, and never continueth in one flay.

In the midft of life we are in death: of whom may we feek for fuccour, but of thee, O Lord, who for our fine art juftly dif pleafed?

Yet, O Lord God moft holy, O Lord moft mighty, O holy and moft merciful Saviour, deli ver us not in o the bitter pains of eternal death.

Thou knoweft, Lord, the fecrets of our hearts: thut not thy merciful ears to our prayers; but fpare us, Lord moft holy, O God moft nighty, O holy and merciful Saviour, thou moft worthy Judge eternal, fuffer us not at our lait hour for any pains of death to fall from thee.

Then shall be faid or fung,

The Woman, at the ufual time after her Delivery, fhall come into the Church decently apparelled, and there fhall kneel down in fome convenient place, ai hath been accustomed, or as the Ordinary fhall di re; and then the Priest fhall fay unto her,
