Then Shall the Prief Speak unto the Godfathers and Godmothers on this wife:

EARLY beloved, ye have

Drought this Child here to

be baptized; ye have prayed that our Lord Jefus Chrift would vouchfafe to receive him, to releafe him of his fins, to fanctify him with the Holy Ghoft, to

give him the kingdom of heaven, and everlafting life. Ye have heard alfo that our Lord Jefus Chrift hath promifed in his Gofpel to grant all thefe things that ye have prayed for: which pro mife he for his part will moft furely keep and perform. Wherefore after this promife made by Chrift, this infant muft a'lo faithfully for his part, promife by you that are his Sue ier (until he come of age to take it upon himfelf.) that he will renounce the devil and all his works, and conitantly believe God's holy Word, and obediently keep his Commandments.

I demand therefore,

Then Shall the Prieft fay, MERCIFUL God, grant that the old Adam in this Child, may be fo buried, that the new man may be railed up in him. Amen.

Grant that all carnal affections may die in him, and that all things belonging to the Spirit may live and grow in him. Amen.

Grant that he may have power and ftrength to have victory, and to triumph against the devil, the

world, and the flesh. Amen.

Grant that whofoever is here

dedicated to thee by our Office and Miniftry, may alfo be endued with heavenly virtues, and ever. lattingly rewarded through thy mercy, O blefled Lord God who doft live and govern all things, world without end. Amen.

moft merciful Father, that it hath pleafed thee to re generate this Infant with thy Holy Spirit, to receive him for thine own Child by adoption, and to incorporate him into thy holy Church. And humbly we befeech thee to grant, that he being dead unto fin, and living

And then naming it after them (if they fhall certify him that the Child may well endure it) he fhall dip it in the Water difcreetly and warily, saying, N. Name of the Father, and unto righteoufnefs, and being

Then fhall be faid, all kneeling, UR Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Naine, Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done in ear h, as it is in heaven: Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trefpafies, as we forgive them that trefpafs against us; And lead us not in o temptation, But de liver us from evil. Amen.

ORASMUCH as this Child hath

promifed by you his fureties, to renounce the devil and all his works, to believe in God, and to ferve him; ye muft remember, that it is your parts and duties to fee that this Infant be taught, fo foon as he thall be able to learn, what a folemn vow, promife, and profeffion he hath here made by you. And that he may know thefe things the better, ye thall call upon him to hear Sermons, and chiefly ye fhall provide that he may learn the Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and the Ten Commandments in the vulgar tongue, and all other things which a Chriftian ought to know and believe to his foul's health; and that this Child may be virtuously brought up to lead a godly and a chriftian life; remembering always, that Baptifin doth reprefent unto us our profelion, which is to follow the example of our Saviour Chrit, and to be made like unto him; that as he died and rofe again for us; fo fhould we, who are baptized, die tron fin, and rife again unto righte.

The MINISTRATION of

PRIVATE BAPTISM of CHILDREN in Houses. THE Curates of every Parish hall often admonish the People that they defer not the Baptifm of their Children longer than the fir or fecond Sunday next after their Birth, or other Holy-day falling between, unless upon a great and reafonable caufe, to be approved of by the Curate.

And also they fhall warn them, that without like great caufe and neceffity they procure not their Children to be baptized at home in their houses. But when need all compel them fo io do, then Baptifm fhall be adminiflered on this fashion:

First let the Minifier of the Parish (or in his abfence, any other lar ful Minifler that can be procured) with them that are prefent, call upon God, and fay the Lord's Prayer, and fo many of the Celleas appointed to be faid before in the Form of Publick Baptifm, as the time and prefent exigence will fuffer. And then the Child being named by fome one that is prefent, the Minister shall pour water upon it, fay. ing these words:

Then all kneeling down the Minier fhall give thanks unto God, and fay,

And let them not doubt, but that the Child fo baptized is larefully and fufficiently bap tized, and ought not to be bagtized again. Yet nevertheles if the Child, which is after this Jurt baptized, do afterward live, it is expedient that it be brought into the Church, to the intent that if the Minifter of the fame Parish did himself baptize that Child, the Congregation may be cer tified of the true form of Bap tim, by him privately before fed. In which cafe he fhall fay thus,

CERTIFY you, that accord.

But if the Child were baptized and forbid them not: for of fuch by any other lawful Miniger; is the kingdom of God. Because fome things effential to this Sacrameat may happen to be omitted through fear or hate, in fuch times of extremity; therefore I demand fur ther of you,

And if the Minifter fhall find by the answers of fuch as bring the Child, that all things were done as they ought to be; then hall not he chriften the Child again, but fhall receive him as one of the flock of true Chriftian people, Jaying thats;

CERTIFY you, that in this cafe all is well done, and according unto due order, concern ing the baptizing of this Child; who being born in original fin, and in the wrath of God, is now by the laver of regeneration in Baptifm, received into the number of the children of God, and heirs of everiafting life: For our Lord Jefus Chrift doth not deny his grace and mercy unto fuch Infants, but oft lovingly doth call them unto him, as the holy Gofpel doth witnefs to our comfort on this wife:
