How happy they, who still abide,
Close sheltered by Thy watchful side;
Who life, and strength, from Thee receive,
And with Thee move, and in Thee live!

First-born of many brethren, Thou!

To whom both earth and heaven must bow; We bear Thy cross, and seek Thy crown, Heirs of Thy glory, and Thy throne.

HYMN 28.

LEADER of faithful souls, and Guide
Of all that travel to the sky,
Come, and with, even us abide,

Who would on Thee alone rely;
On Thee alone our spirits stay,
While held in life's uneven way.

Strangers, and pilgrims here below,
This earth we know is not our place;
We hasten through this vale of woe,
And restless to behold thy face;
Swift to our heavenly country move,
Our everlasting home above.

We have no 'biding city here,
But seek a city out of sight;
Thither our steady course we steer,
Aspiring to the plains of light;

Jerusalem, the Saints' abode,

Whose founder is the living God.

Patient th' appointed race to run,
This weary world we cast behind;
From strength to strength we travel on,
The New Jerusalem to find;

Our labour this, our only aim,

To find the New Jerusalem.

Through Thee, who all our sins hast borne,
Freely and graciously forgiven;
With Songs to Zion we return,
Contending for our native heaven;

That palace of our glorious King,
We find it nearer, while we sing.

Raised by the breath of Love divine,

We urge our way, with strength renew'd; The church of the First-born to join,

We travel to the Mount of God;

With joy upon our heads, arise,
And meet our Captain in the skies.

HYMN 29.

SAVIOUR, Thy promised gift I know;
That healing gift I ask of Thee,
The living water now bestow,

Thy Spirit, and Thyself on me :
Thou, Lord, of life the fountain art,
Abide for ever in my heart.

Then shall I drink, and thirst no more,
What lack I more beneath the skies?
"Spring up, O Well, in heavenly power,
In streams, that water Paradise?

In joy, that none can take away,
In life, that never can decay.

HYMN 30.

OH Saviour, is Thy promise fled ?
Nor longer might Thy grace endure,
To heal the sick, and raise the dead,
And preach Thy Gospel to the poor?

Come, Jesus! come! return again;
With brighter beam Thy servants bless,
Who long to feel Thy perfect reign,
And share Thy kingdom's happiness!

A feeble race, by passion driven,

In darkness, and in doubt we roam, And lift our anxious eyes to Heaven, Our hope, our harbour, and our home!

Yet 'mid the wild and wintry gale,

When Death rides darkly o'er the sea, And strength and earthly daring fail,

Our prayers, Redeemer! rest on Thee!

Come, Jesus! come! and, as of yore
The prophet went to clear Thy way,
A harbinger Thy feet before,

A dawning to Thy brighter day:

So now may grace with heavenly shower
Our stony hearts for truth prepare ;
Sow in our souls the seed of power,
Then come, and reap Thy harvest there!

HYMN 31.

LAMB of God, who Thee receive,

Who in Thee begin to live,

Day and night they cry to Thee,
"As Thou art, so let us be!"

Fix, O! fix each wav'ring mind,
To Thy cross our spirits bind;
Earthly passions far remove;
Swallow up our souls in love.

Dust and ashes though we be,
Full of guilt and misery;

Thine we are, Thou Son of God,
Take the purchase of Thy blood.

Boundless wisdom,

power Divine,

Love unspeakable, are Thine,

Praise by all to Thee be given,
Sons of earth, and hosts of heaven.

HYMN 32.

FOR EVER here my rest shall be,
Close to Thy bleeding side;
This all my hope, and all my plea,
For me my Saviour died.

My dying Saviour, and my God,
Fountain for guilt and sin,
Sprinkle me ever with Thy blood,
And cleanse, and keep me clean.

Wash me, and make me thus Thine own,
Wash me, and mine Thou art,
Wash me, but not my feet alone,
My hands, my head, my heart.

Ah! dwell within me, and control
My will to own Thy sway:
Diffuse Thine image thro' my soul,
Shine to the perfect day!
