2 On thee, at the creation,

The light first had its birth;
On thee, for our salvation,
Christ rose from depths of earth;
On thee our Lord, victorious,

The Spirit sent from heaven;
And thus on thee most glorious,
A triple light was given.

3 Thou art a port protected

From storms that round us rise;

A garden intersected

With streams of Paradise;

Thou art a cooling fountain

In life's dry, dreary sand; From thee, like Pisgah's mountain, We view our promised land.

4 Today on weary nations.

The heavenly manna falls:
To holy convocations

The silver trumpet calls,
Where gospel light is glowing
With pure and radiant beams,
And living water flowing
With soul-refreshing streams.

5 New graces ever gaining

From this our day of rest,
We reach the rest remaining
To spirits of the blest.
To Holy Ghost be praises,
To Father, and to Son;
The church her voice upraises
To Thee, blest Three in One.

Lo,

Rev. William Jones, 1789

Thy church waits with long - ing eyes, Thus to be owned and blest.

2 Enter with all Thy glorious train,
Thy Spirit and Thy word;
All that the ark did once contain
Could no such grace afford.

3 Here, mighty God, accept our vows,
Here let Thy praise be spread;
Bless the provisions of Thy house,
And fill Thy poor with bread.

4 Here let the Son of David reign, Let God's Anointed shine,

Justice and truth His court maintain,
With love and power divine.

5 Here let Him hold a lasting throne;
And, as His kingdom grows,
Fresh honors shall adorn His crown,
And shame confound His foes.

This is the day our rising Lord Hath made, and called His own.

4 Blest be the Lord, who comes to men
With messages of grace;
Who comes in God His Father's name,
To save our sinful race.

5 Hosanna, in the highest strains
The Church on earth can raise !
The highest heavens in which He reigns
Shall give Him nobler praise.

2 Accept our faint attempts to love; Our frailties, Lord, forgive;

Where the assembly ne'er breaks up,
The Sabbaths ne'er shall end.

We would be like Thy saints above, 4 Where we shall breathe in heavenly air,

And praise Thee while we live.

3 Increase, O Lord, our faith and hope, And fit us to ascend,

With heavenly lustre shine;
Before the throne of God appear,
And feast on love divine.

2 Thy chosen temple, Lord, how fair! 4
As here Thy servants throng

To breathe the humble, fervent prayer,
And pour the choral song.

3 Spirit of grace, O deign to dwell
Within Thy Church below;
Make her in holiness excel,
With pure devotion glow.

Let peace within her walls be found;
Let all her sons unite

To spread with holy zeal around
Her clear and shining light.

5 Great God, we hail the sacred day
Which Thou hast called Thine own;
With joy the summons we obey
To worship at Thy throne.

Riches above what earth can grant,

And lasting as the mind.

My ever dear delight;

And still new beauties may I see,
And still increasing light.

Spreads heavenly peace around;

And life and everlasting joys

Attend the blissful sound.

Be Thou for ever near;

Teach me to love Thy sacred word,

And view my Saviour there.

2 Bread of our souls, whereon we feed, 4 Word of the ever-living God,
True manna from on high;

Our guide and chart, wherein we read
Of realms beyond the sky:

3 Pillar of fire, through watches dark, 5
Or radiant cloud by day; [bark,
When waves would 'whelm our tossing
Our anchor and our stay:

Will of His glorious Son;
Without Thee how could earth be trod,
Or heaven itself be won?

Lord, grant us all aright to learn
The wisdom it imparts;
And to its heavenly teaching turn,
With simple, childlike hearts.
