ADVERTISEMENT. MOST of the following Discourses have been heard by some of the Author's few and partial Friends. On their encouraging opinion he has relied in venturing to present them to the public. He is aware that he thus exposes himself to a more strict and unbiassed judgment. He awaits this decision, not without apprehension; but he is conscious of making every effort, which his feeble talents admit, to render them serviceable to the sacred cause of Christian truth and virtue. The Prayers he has added, in compliance with the request of those whose wishes he is anxious to gratify, and with the hope that they may be adapted to assist devotion, which is a primary Christian duty, the safeguard of virtuous character, and the highest privilege of our present state.
