Ver. 1

Acame unto Abram a

FTER thefe Things the Word of the LORD

came unto Abram in a VISION, faying, Fear not, Abram I am thy SHIELD, and thy exceeding great RE

WARD.

2 And Abram faid, LORD GOD, what wilt thou give me, feeing I go CHILDLESS, and the Steward of my House is this Eliezer of Damafcus?

3 And Abram faid, Behold, to me thou haft given NO SEED and lo, one born in my House is mine Heir.

4 And behold, the WORD of the LORD came unto him, faying, This fhall not be thine Heir, but he that shall come forth out of thine own Bowels fhall be thine Heir.

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and faid, Look now toward Heaven, and tell the STARS, if thou be able to NUMBER them: and he faid unto him, So fhall thy SEED be.

6 And he BELIEVED in the LORD; and he counted it to him for RIGHTEOUSNESS.

7 And he faid unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of the Land of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this Land to inherit it.

8 And he faid, LORD GOD, whereby fhall I know

that I fhall inherit it?

9 And he faid unto him, Take me an Heifer of three Years old, and a She-goat of three Years old, and a Ram of three Years old, and a Turtle-dove, and a young Pigeon.

10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the Midft, and laid each Piece one against another: but the Birds divided he pot.

.

Rom. iv. 3 What faith the Scripture! Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and it was counted unto him for RIGH

TEOUSNESS.

13 For the PROMISE that he fhould be the HEIR of the World, was not

to Abraham, or to his Seed through the Law, but through the RIGHTE OUSNESS OF FAITH.

14 For if they which are of the Law be HEIRS, FAITH is made void, and the PROMISE made of none Effeat.

Is Because the Law worketh Wrath: for where no Law is, there is no Tranfgreffion.

16 Therefore it is of FAITH, that it might be by GRACE; to the END the PROMISE might be fure to all the Seed, not to that only which is of the Law, but to that allo which is

of the FAITH of ABRAHAM, who is the FATHER of us all,

17 (As it is written, I have made

thee a FATHER of many Nations)

before him whom he BELIEVED, even GOD who QUICKNETH the DEAD, and calleth thole Things which BE NOT, as though THEY WERE.

18 Who against HOPE, BELIEVED in HOPE, that he might become the FATHER of many Nations; according

came down upon the Carcafes, Abram drove them away. 12 And when the Sun was going down, a deep Sleep fell upon Abram; and lo, an Horror of great Darkness fell upon him.

19 And being not WEAK in FAITH, he confidered not his own Body now DEAD, when he was about an hundred Years old, neither yet the DEAD

NESS of Sarah's Womb.

20 He STAGGERED not at the PROMISE of GOD through UNBELIEF; but was STRONG in Faith, giving GLORY to God.

21 And being fully PERSWADED, that what he had PROMISED, he was ABLE alfo to perform.

22 And therefore it was IMPUTED to him for RIGHTEOUSNESS.

23 Now it was not WRITTEN for his SAKE ALONE, that it was imputed to him;

24 But for us ALSO, to whom it fhall be IMPUTED, if we BELIEVE on him that RAISED UP JESUS our LORD from the Dead,

25 Who was DELIVERED for our OFFENCES, and was RAISED again for Our JUSTIFICATION.

Gal. iii, 6 Even as Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and it was accounted to him for RIGHTEOUSNESS.

7 Know ye therefore, that they which are of FAITH, the fame are the CHILDREN of Abraham.

8 And the Scripture forefecing that God would justify the HEATHEN through FAITH, preached before the GOSPEL unto Abraham, faying, in thee fhall all NATIONS be BLESSED.

9 So then they which be of FAITH, are BLESSED with faithful Araham. 13 CHRIST hath redeemed us from the Curfe of the Law, being made a Curfe for us for it is written, Curfed is every one that hangeth on a Tree:

14 That the BLESSING of Abraham might come on the GENTILES through JESUS CHRIST; that we might receive the PROMISE of the SPIRIT through FAITH.

John viii. 56 Abraham REJOYCED to see my Day, and he saw IT, and was glad.

57 Then faid the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty Years old, and haft thou feen Abraham?

58 And Jesus faith unto them, Before Abraham was, I am.

13 And he faid unto Abram, Know of a Surety that thy Seed shall be a Stranger in a Land that is not theirs, and fhall ferve them, and they fhall afflict them FOUR HUNDRED Years.

* Ads vii. 6 And GOD fpake on this wife, That his SEED fhould fojourn in a ftrange Land, and that they fhould bring them into Bondage, and intreat them EVIL FOUR

HUNDRED Years.

7 And the Nation to whom they fhall be in Bondage, will I JUDGE, faid GoD and after that fhall they come forth, and ferve me in this Place.

14 And also that Nation whom they fhall ferve, will I JUDGE and afterward fhall they come out with great Substance.

15 And thou shalt go to thy Fathers in Peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old Age.

16 But in the fourth Generation they shall come hither again for the Iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

17 And it came to pass, that when the Sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a fmoaking Furnace, and a burning Lamp that paffed between those Pieces.

18 In that fame Day the LORD made a Covenant with Abram, faying, Unto thy Seed have I given this Land, from the River of Egypt, unto the great River, the River Euphrates :

19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,

21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgafhites, and the Jebufites.

CHA P. XVI.

24 Which Things are an ALLEGORY; for thefe are the two COVENANTS; the one from the MOUNT SINAI, which gendereth to BONDAGE, which is Agar.

25 For this Agar is MOUNT SINAL

in Arabia, and anfwereth to Jerufalem which now is, and is in BONDAGE with her Children.

26 But Jerufalem which is above, is FREE, which is the Mother of us all,

3 And Sarai Abram's Wife took Hagar her Maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten Years in the Land of Canaan, and gave her to her Hufband Abram to be his Wife.

4 And he went in unto Hagar, and fhe conceived: And when fhe faw that fhe had conceived, her Mistress was defpifed in her Eyes.

5 And

5 And Sarai faid unto Abram, My Wrong be upon thee: I have given my Maid into thy Bofom; and when the faw that he had conceived, I was defpifed in her Eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.

6 But Abram faid unto Sarai, Behold, thy Maid is in thy Hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, fhe fled from her Face.

7 And the Angel of the LORD found her by a Fountain of Water in the Wilderness, by the Fountain in the Way to Shur.

8 And he faid, Hagar, Sarai's Maid, whence cameft thou? and whither wilt thou go? And fhe faid, I flee from the Face of my Mistress Sarai.

9 And the Angel of the LORD faid unto her, Return to thy Miftrefs, and submit thy felf under her Hands.

10 And the Angel of the LORD faid unto her, I will multiply thy Seed exceedingly, that it fhall not be numbred for multitude.

II And the Angel of the LORD faid unto her, Behold, thou art with Child, and fhalt bear a Son, and fhalt call his Name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy Affliction.

m Gen. xxv. 18 And Ifhmael died in the Prefence of all his Brethren.

12 m And he will be a wild Man; his Hand will be against every Man, and every Man's Hand against him; and he fhall dwell in the Prefence of all his Brethren.

13 And he called the Name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou GOD feeft me for fhe faid, Have I alfo here looked after him that feeth me?

14 Wherefore the Well was called Beer-lahairoi.

15 And Hagar bare Abram a Son and Abram called his Son's Name, which Hagar bare, Ifhmael.

16 And Abram was fourfcore and fix Years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.

IGOD reneweth the Covenant. 5 Abram's Name is changed, in Token of a greater Bleffing. 10 Circumcifion is inflituted. 15 Sarai's Name is changed, and he bleffed. 16 Ifaac is promifed. 23 Abraham and Ishmael are circumcifed."

2 And I will make my COVENANT between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3 And Abram fell on his Face and GOD talked with him, faying,

4 As for me, behold, my Covenant is with thee, and thou fhalt be a Father of many Nations.

5 Neither fhall thy Name any more be called Abram ; but thy Name fhall be ABRAHAM, for a Father of many Nations have I made thee.

6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make Nations of thee; and Kings fhall come out of thee.

7 And I will establish my COVENANT between me and thee, and thy Seed after thee, in their Generations for an everlasting Covenant; to be a GOD unto thee, and to thy Seed after thee.

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy Seed after thee, the Land wherein thou art a Stranger, all the Land of Canaan, for an everlasting Poffeflion; and I will be their GOD.

9 And GOD faid unto ABRAHAM, Thou fhalt keep my COVENANT therefore, thou, and thy Seed after thee, in their Generations.

10 This is my CoveNANT which ye fhall keep, between me and you, and thy Seed after thee; Every Man-child among you fhall be circumcifed.

11 And ye fhall circumcife the Flesh of your Fore-fkin, and it fhall be a Token of the Covenant betwixt me and you.

Rom. ii. 25 For CIRCUMCISION VCrily profiteth, if thou keep the Law: but if thou be a Breaker of the Law, thy CIRCUMCISION is made Uncircumcifion.

26 Therefore if the Uncircumcifion keep the RIGHTEOUSNESS of the LAW, fhall not his Uncircumcifion be count ed for CIRCUMCISION?

27 And fhall not Uncircumcifion

which is by Nature, if it fulfil the LAW, judge thee, who by the Letter and CIRCUMCISION, doit tranfgrefs the LAW?
