SECTION I.

HE following conclufions, although 549. they appear to be founded on a very confiderable degree of probability, yet, not having fuch full and positive support from Holy Scripture as the preceding feem to have, are not ventured to be inferted amongst those Obfervations which were more particularly defigned to form the contents of this Volume; and therefore have been referved to be added by themselves in an Appendix, as mere hints, to any perfons whofe curiosity and philofophical enquiries may lead them to confider the fubjects ftill more thoroughly and maturely.

And the first conclufion of this kind, which I have adventured to deduce, is concerning the celebrated Prophecy of St. Peter, relating to the Destruction of this prefent Earth by fire.

LORD AS A THOUSAND YEARS, AND A THOUSAND YEARS AS ONE DAY.

And here again, it is impoffible to read these words without recollecting, that the most ancient opinion in the Church really was, that as the inflituted week confifts of fix days and a fabbath, fo the duration of the imperfect state of the world, or earth, would be fix thousand years; and then would come the perfected state of it, or its true fabbath.

And if to this we add the confideration of those words of our Lord, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will build it up; and confider the three days, in which his body lay in the grave, as typical of three thousand years, or rather (reckoning as the days themfelves, during which his body lay in the grave, were computed,) of the feveral portions and parts of three thoufand years which fhould pafs between the time of His crucifixion, and being denied on earth, (when He first came as the Meffiah,) and His fecond coming in glory: I fay, if we confider all this rightly, we cannot but perceive that then the dawn of the third prophetical day will exactly coincide with the end of fix thousand
