to the "Act making a further appropriation for the support of a library," passed on the twenty-first of February, one thousand eight hundred and six.

Ordered, That Mr. Nicholas, Mr. Dana and Mr. Say, be appointed a committee pursuant to the said resolution, on the part of this House.

Ordered, That the Clerk of this House do carry this resolution to the Senate and desire their concur. rence.

A motion was made by Mr. Bibb, and seconded, that the House do come to the following resolution:

Resolved, That it is expedient to vest in the corporation of New Orleans, whatever right, title or claim, the United States possess to the Batture, situate in front of the suburb of St. Mary and adjoining the city of Orleans.

The said resolution was read, and permitted to lie on the table.

On motion of Mr. Macon, and seconded,

Resolved, That the Committee of Commerce and Manufactures, be instructed to inquire into the expediency of authorizing the registering anew, of vessels built in the United States, which are owned in whole by citizens of the United States; any disability incurred by such vessel to the contrary notwithstanding: and also into the expediency of forbidding, by law, sea letters or any custom-house documents being granted to vessels not registered or licenced according to law, or not owned by citizens of the United States, within a limited time after the passing of such a law.

Ordered, That Mr. Chittenden have leave to be absent from the service of this House, from Monday next, and Mr. Nelson from this day, for the remainder of the session.

Mr. Johnson, from the Committee of Claims, made a report on the petition of Arthur St. Clair, referred to them on the twenty-fifth ultimo, which was read, and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Gholson, from the joint committee for enrolled bills, reported that the committee had examined an enrolled bill, entitled "An act authorizing the discharge of John Heard from his imprisonment," and had found the same to be truly enrolled: Whereupon, Mr. Speaker signed the said enrolled bill.

Ordered, That the Clerk of this House do acquaint the Senate therewith.

Mr. Speaker: The Senate have passed a bill, entitled "An act making an appropriation to finish and furnish the Senate chamber, and for other purposes,' to which they desire the concurrence of this House: And then he withdrew.

An engrossed bill supplementary to the act, entitled "An act making further provision for the support of public credit, and for the redemption of the public debt," was read the third time.

A motion was made by Mr. Randolph, and seconded, that the farther consideration of the said bill be postponed until to-morrow.

And the question being taken thereupon,

It was determined in the negative.
