THEN

Solomon offered Burnt-offerings unto the LORD on the Altar of the LORD, which he had built before the Porch :

13 Even after a certain Rate every Day, offering according to the Commandment of Mofes, on the Sabbaths, and on the New-moons, and on the folemn Feasts, three times in the Year, even in the Feast of unleavened Bread, and in the Feast of Weeks, and in the Feast of Tabernacles.

14 And he appointed, according to the Order of David his Father, the Courses of the Priests, to their Service, and the Levites to their Charges, to praise and minister before the Priests, as the Duty of every Day required: the Porters also by their Courses, at every Gate: for fo had David the Man of God commanded.

15 And they departed not from the Commandment of the King unto the Priests and Levites, concerning any Matter, or concerning the Treasures.

16 Now all the Work of Solomon was prepared unto the Day of the Foundation of the House of the LORD, and until it was finished: so the House of the LORD was perfected.

17 Then went Solomon to Ezion-geber, and to Eloth, at the Sea-fide in the Land of Edom.

18 And Huram sent him by the Hands of his Servants, Ships, and Servants that had Knowledge of the Sea; and they went with the Servants of Solomon to Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty Talents of Gold, and brought them to King Solomon.

7 Howbeit, I believed not the Words until I came, and mine Eyes had seen it: and behold, the half was not told me: thy Wisdom and Prosperity exceedeth the Fame which I heard.

8 Happy are thy Men, happy are these thy Servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy Wisdom.

9 Bleffed be the LORD thy God which delighted in thee, to fet thee on the Throne of Ifrael; because the LORD loved Ifrael for ever, therefore made he thee King to do Judgment and Justice.

■ Solomon's Wives and Concubines : 4 In his old Age they draw him to Idolatry: 9 God threatneth him. 14 Solomon's Adverfaries were Hadad, who was entertained in Egypt; 23 Rezon, who reigned in Damafcus; 26 and Jeroboam, to whom Abijah prophefied. 41 Solomon's Acts, Reign, and Death: 43 Rehoboam fucceedeth him.

Ver.1 BUT King Solomon loved many strange Women, (together with the Daughter Pharaoh) Women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites:

2 Of the NATIONS concerning which the LORD faid unto the Children of Ifrael, Ye shall not go into them, neither shall they come in unto you, for furely they will TURN away your HEART after their Gods: Solomon clave unto these in Love.

4 For it came to pass when Solomon was old, that his Wives turned away his Heart after other Gods: and his Heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the Heart of David his Father.

5 For Solomon went after Afhtoreth the Goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the Abomination of the Ammonites.

6 And Solomon did evil in the fight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his Father,

8 And likewise did he for all his strange Wives, which burnt Incense and facrificed unto their Gods.

9 And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his Heart was turned from the LORD GOD of Ifrael, which had appeared unto him twice.

10 And had commanded him concerning this Thing, that he should not go after other Gods: but he kept not that which the Lord commanded.

11 Wherefore the Lord said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my Covenant and my Statutes which I have commanded thee, I will furely rend the Kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy

Servant.

12 Notwithstanding in thy Days I will not do it, for David thy Father's Sake: but I will rend it out of the Hand of thy Son.

13 Howbeit, I will not rend away all the Kingdom: but will give one Tribe to thy Son, for David my Servant's Sake, and for Jerufalem's Sake which I have chosen.

14 And the LORD stirred up an Adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the King's Seed in Edom.

15 For it came to pass when David was in Edom, and Joab the Captain of the Host was gone up to bury the Slain, after he had fmitten every Male in Edom :

20 And

20 And the Sister of Tahpenes bare him Genubath his Son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's Houfe: and Genubath was in Pharaoh's Houshold among the Sons of Pharaoh.

21 And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David flept with his Fathers, and that Joab the Captain of the Host was dead, Hadad faid to Pharaoh, Let me depart, that I may go to mine own Countrey.

22 Then Pharaoh faid unto him, But what hast thou lacked with me, that behold, thou seekest to go to thine own Countrey? And he answered, Nothing: howbeit let me go in any wife.

23 And God stirred him up another Adversary, Rezon the Son of Eliadah, which fled from his Lord Hadadezer, King of Zobahı

24 And he gathered Men unto him, and became Captain over a Band, when David flew them of Zobah: and they went to Damafcus and dwelt therein, and reigned in Damafcus.

25 And he was an Adversary unto Ifrael all the Days of Solomon, befides the Mischief that Hadad did: and he abhorred Ifrael, and reigned over Syria.

26 And Jeroboam the Son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon's Servant, (whose Mother's Name was Zeruah, a Widow-woman) even he lift up his Hand againft the King.

27 And this was the Cause that he lift up his Hand against the King: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the Breaches of the City of David his Father.

28 And the Man Jeroboam was a mighty Man of Valour: and Solomon feeing the young Man that he was industrious, he made him Ruler over all the Charge of the House of Jofeph.

29 And it came to pass at the time when Jeroboam went out of Jerufalem, that the Prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the Way: and he had clad himself with a new Garment; and they two were alone in the Field.

30 And Ahijah caught, the new Garment that was on him, and rent it in twelve Pieces.

31 And he faid to Jeroboam, Take thee ten Pieces: for thus faith the LORD, the God of Ifrael, Behold, I will rend the Kingdom out of the Hand of Solomon, and will give ten Tribes to thee:
