THE BAPTISM OF OUR LORD. Matt., Chap. III.-13. Then com-eth Je-sus from Gal-i-lee to Jor-dan un-to John, to be bap-tised of him. 14. But John for-bad him, say-ing, I have need to be bap-ti-sed of thee; and com-est thou to me? 15. And Je-sus an-swer-ing said un-to him, Suffer it to be so now; for thus it be-com-eth us to ful-fill all right-eous-ness. Then he suf-fer-ed him. 16. And Je-sus, when he was bap-ti-sed, went up straight-way out of the wa-ter; and, lo, the hea-vens 150 JESUS FEEDS THE MULTITUDE, were o-pen-ed un-to him, and he saw the spir-it of GOD de-scend-ing like a dove, and light-ing up-on him. 17. And lo, a voice from hea-ven say-ing, This is my be-lov-ed Son, in whom I am well pleas-ed. LESSON V. JESUS FEEDS THE MULTITUDE. Matt., Chap. XIV.-14. And Je-sus went forth, and saw a great mul-ti-tude, and was mov-ed with com-pas-sion to-ward them, and he heal-ed their sick. 15. And when it was e-ven-ing, his dis-ci-ples came to him, say-ing, This is a des-ert place, and the time is now past; send the mul-ti-tude a-way, that they may go in-to the vil-la-ges, and buy themselves vic-tu-als. 16. But Je-sus said un-to them, They need not de-part; give ye them to eat. 17. And they say un-to him, We have here but five loaves and two fish-es. 18. He said, Bring them hith-er to me. 19. And he com-mand-ed the mul-ti-tude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves and the two fish-es, and, look-ing up to hea-ven, he bless-ed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his dis-ci-ples, and the dis-ci-ples to the mul-ti-tude. 20. And they did all eat, and were fill-ed; and they took up of the frag-ments that re-main-ed, twelve bas-kets full. 21. And they that had eat-en, were a-bout five thou-sand men, be-side wo-men and chil-dren. JESUS HEALS THE MAN WITH THE WITIERED HAND. 151 CREENAWAY WRIGHT LESSON VI. JESUS HEALS THE MAN WITH THE WITHERED HAND. Matthew, Chap. XII.-9. And when he was depart-ed thence, he went in-to their syn-a-gogue: 10. And, be-hold, there was a man which had his hand with-er-ed. And they ask-ed him, saying, Is it law-ful to heal on the sab-bath day? that they might ac-cuse him. 11. And he said un-to them, What man shall there be a-mong you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sab-bath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? 152 JESUS HEALS THE NOBLEMAN'S SON. 12. How much then is a man bet-ter than a sheep? Where-fore it is law-ful to do well on the sab-bath day. 13. Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretch-ed it forth; and it was re-sto-red whole, like as the oth-er. LESSON VII. JESUS HEALS THE NOBLEMAN'S SON. John, Chap. IV.-46. So Je-sus came a-gain in-to Ca-na of Gal-i-lee, where he made the wa-ter wine. And there was a cer-tain no-ble-man, whose son was sick at Ca-per-na-um. 47. When he heard that Je-sus was come out of Ju-de-a in-to Gal-i-lee, he went un-to him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48. Then said Je-sus un-to him, Ex-cept ye see signs and won-ders, ye will not be-lieve. 49. The no-ble-man saith un-to him, Sir, come down ere my child die. 50. Je-sus saith unto him, Go thy way: thy son liv-eth. And the man be-liev-ed the word that Jesus had spo-ken un-to him, and he went his way. 51. And as he was now go-ing down, his servants met him, and told him him, say-ing, Thy son liv-eth. 52. Then en-quir-ed he of them the hour when he be-gan to a-mend. And they said un-to him, Yester-day at the sev-enth hour the fe-ver left him. 53. So the fa-ther knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Je-sus said un-to him, Thy son liv-eth and him-self be-liev-ed, and his whole house. JESUS CURES THE LEPER. 153 LESSON VIII. JESUS CURES THE LEPER. Luke, Chap.V.-12. And it came to pass, when he was in a cer-tain cit-y, be-hold a man full of le-pro-sy, who, see-ing Je-sus, fell on his face, and be-sought him, say-ing, LORD, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 13. And he put forth his hand, and touch-ed him, say-ing I will: be thou clean. And im-mediate-ly the le-pro-sy de-part-ed from him. 14. And he charg-ed him to tell no man: but go, and shew thy-self to the priest, and of-fer for thy clean-sing ac-cord-ing as Mo-ses com-mand-ed, for a tes-ti-mony un-to them. 15. But so much the more went there a fame a-broad of him: and great mul-ti-tudes came togeth-er to hear, and to be heal-ed by him of their in-fir-mi-ties. LESSON IX. JESUS GIVES SIGHT TO THE BLIND. Mark, Chap. X.-46. And they came to Je-richo: and as he went out of Je-ri-cho with his disci-ples and a great num-ber of peo-ple, blind Barti-me-us, the son of Ti-me-us, sat by the high-way side beg-ging. 47. And when he heard that it was Je-sus of Na-za-reth, he be-gan to cry out, and say, Je-sus, thou Son of David, have mer-cy on me. 48. And ma-ny charg-ed him that he should hold his peace; but he cri-ed out the more a great deal, Thou Son of Da-vid, have mer-cy on me. 49. And Je-sus stood still and com-mand-ed him |
