Most of its contents are entirely new, and pains have been taken to combine variety, interest, life and instruction to the selections. The name of Franklin is affixed to the work in honor of an illustrious son of Boston, forever associated with her public schools through the medals devised in his will. The introductory portion, on reading and the training of the voice, is by Professor Mark Bailey, of Yale College. Its practical value has been proved by the experience of teachers.
