with you!" And the reapers said to him, "The Lord bless thee!" Then Boaz saw Ruth, and he asked one of his servants the name of that young woman. The servant said her name was Ruth; that she came from a country a long way off, and that she had begged leave to glean a little corn in the field, to make some bread for herself and her mother.

D. Was the rich man kind to her, Mamma?

Mamma. Yes,
Yes, he was very

kind to her for he was pleased to see her so fond of her poor mother. He told her not to go into the next field, but to stop in his field, and glean as much as she liked; and he told the reapers to let a little corn fall down among the sheaves on purpose that she might pick it up. Boaz was so kind to her, too, that he told her, when she wanted her dinner, to come and sit down on the ground by his reapers, and have some of their dinner.

D. I suppose she picked up corn enough to make her mother a loaf, Mamma?

Mamma. Oh yes, enough to make a great many loaves. Her mother was very glad when she went home and showed her what a great deal of corn she had gleaned; for now she knew they should have plenty of bread to

eat.

The next day, Ruth went again to the corn-field, and Boaz gave her leave to glean corn in his

fields until the end of harvest

time.

LESSON XI.

LITTLE SAMUEL.

D. Mamma, I have been learning that pretty hymn about little Samuel,* and I should like to hear the real story out of the Bible. Will you be so kind as to tell it to me?

Mamma. Samuel was a very good little boy he began to love and serve God when he was very young, and God took care of him all his life long.

D. I suppose his Mamma used to talk to him about God, and about being a good little boy, Mamma, as you talk to me?

Mamma. Yes, my dear his mother was a pious woman, and she often prayed that God might give her grace to train up this dear child in the way he should
