find it out. But, as I have often told you, God sees us at all times, though we cannot see Him, and knows all that we think, and all that we say, and all that we do. He saw Adam and Eve picking the fruit and eating it, though they did not think that any one saw them.

D. Did He punish them, Mamma?

Mamma. Yes; He sent them out of the garden, in which they might have been so very happy:

and He put an angel at the gate of the garden, with a flaming sword in his hand, to keep them from ever going back again. You see God does not love people who do not obey and love Him.

D. I hope I shall always love God, Mamma.

Mamma. I hope you will, my dearest little boy, and then I am quite sure you will be happy.

LESSON II.

NOAH'S ARK.

After Adam and Eve

were turned out of the garden, people became very naughty and wicked. They did a great many things which they knew to be wrong, and they did not obey and love God. There was only one very good man among them, and his name was Noah.

D. What did God do to those naughty people, Mamma?

Mamma. He sent a great flood to drown them all. He made it rain very fast for a long time, and at last the water was so deep that all the people were drowned, except Noah and his wife and children.

D. Where did Noah and his wife and children go to be safe, Mamma, when the water was so very deep all over the world?
